Interestingly, this car was ordered in the US for European devlivery. Thus, it has European front license plate. Sorry it's upside down.

Hi - could you please explain a bit more about the work you have done to the Firewall - I have a similar situation with my 1973 GT.

    Regards Steve

Good for you--- Every car or motorcycle I have ever bought I always end up taking apart and making it correct. On one hand I get upset/pissed off that the seller's standards seem to be much lower then mine no matter how much money is involved. But on the other- I very much enjoy projects---- and by having to refurbish it I get to know my new machine much more intimately then having just rolled it into my garage and driving it.

Great work done. Thanks for sharing. Your car appears to be in very good condition so I really appreciate that you're not splitting the cars into atoms and change everything out. That keeps the patina intact.

    Regards Peter

Most people's standards are surprisingly low. I've had to do this all 8 times so far. Love getting intimate with the cars though.

    Steve,

It not hard, just frustrating. In the trunk you will find rivets across the top and screws to remove. Mine were all in the trunk. Once everything is loose, you pull the heatshield up and into the trunk. My emergency engine release cord was too short to I cut it and replaced it re-using the rubber tube pull for "patina". There are also two screws under the car that go through the heatshield into the frame. Take those out prior to lifting it out. Also be careful not to snag the shield on the header heat shield if you still have a one. Mine was a bit jagged. Once it's out, I treated the rust with POR15 and cut a new piece of aluminum to rivet onto the shiney side. Steel wool polished the aluminum up nicely.

Thanks very much - so looks like you can do all this without having to remove much else - which was my initial concern. Thanks for the advice.

    Regards
    Steve

Yes, just the trunk wall / heatshield should slide out through the trunk. Good luck !

It was another rewarding afternoon in the garage. God I love this stuff, when it goes well ;)

I was able to get the front wheels off to get new tires tomorrow. This gave me the access to the front cavities. Once again, luckily no rot.

Buying a car sight unseen from afar, you never truly know what you have until you look for yourself. I've dodged the Reeper successfully for the 8th time. Better not roll those dice again since I just jinxed it.

    Check out this technique.
Shop air & back pack blower to clear debris and road dust, then rust spray down line.
Then blow the rust spray down the rocker panels and chasis tubes using the back pack blower once again !

Nice work, Skipp. However, I don't know what you paid, but knowing what these go for it's a bit shocking some of the work this car needed.

Thanks Dave. It was well bought and I assure you this is better than most in unrestored Dino Land. It's a solid and complete car that needed some " rejuvenation" due to lack of use. The price more than reflected all this.

This reminds me when I restored my Fiat dino spider 2.4
Took me 2 years none stop. But the end product was a real success story. Your car looks amazing.

    Keep it up.
