Is it in the UK now Mark? I'd love to have a look at it.
Hi Francis, yes its back in London, its down at the garage. Come along anytime, if Joe is not around get Scottish Pete the head classic mechanic to show you the car. I am around most Saturdays drop me a line when you are coming past. cheers Mark
hi some pictures of the interior getting re-trimmed - back to the original colour scheme... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Seriously pretty thing; I've mooched around here looking at shiny things for a fair old while but it's taken your thread to make me join up and comment!
Glad to read this. One big reason to go through the time and expense as you have is to "time-travel" and have your dream car as a new car -- perfectly straight and all systems in perfect working order. Apply your own patina. I've never seen the romance in someone else's fraying carpets, cracked seats, dents and dings.
could not have put it better! That is exactly the feeling i want from this journey. Thank you Bullfighter.
Morning, The interior was done by Lupi in Italy. I asked them to make it as close to original as possible using the same colour codes as the factory build: Original exterior color was: Argento 106-E-1. Original interior color was: Rosso VM 3171. I will ask them for more details when i get a chance. The only major difference is, I have substituted leather for the vinyl that was used originally - I am not a big vinyl fan, and leather was an option back in the day. Also wait until you see the seats, they are fantastic! Lupi has re-upholstered them using the original black cloth down the centre section, with Rosso leather bolsters - the finish is stunning! cheers Mark
Thanks Grant, I will take some more shots with the seats in this week. I am particularly happy with the finish in the boot area - i will take some close up pictures of this. Cheer Mark
The VM hides ,I understand what is now Connolly hides for a price will do the same texture using modern colours/materials. wonderful thread. Choice of tyres? wheels? Will you use the car much Mark? and what type events?
Still debating on the wheels, I have several sets: the original Starburst alloys, Borrani wires and a set of Campagnolo slot alloys - guess I can always chop and change as the mood takes. Tyres - i have a few sets of the michelin xwx tyre - think they are the best period tyre. I hope to use the car as much as possible, I will even commute to work in it! See earlier in the thread where i use my 1961 E type as my daily driver. I promised Joe i will show the car a couple of times when finished, so he can showcase the work - but after that I am not that bothered, don't want to sound selfish, but i have done this for me to enjoy on the open roads. I have always said if it needs restoring again in 10 or 20 years so be it. cheers Mark
Does a car, like this one, that has been completely restored, including all new interior, have the new car smell like a modern car? That's a mighty odd question, I know, but I've always wondered that.
my sought of guy, drive it and enjoy driving a classic 60s car to work,i often did it before i retired with a couple of Bentley Flying Spur S3's,Aston and my E-type 3.8 roadster. Its a buzz driving a 60s car,I've never had one damaged or keyed where as daily drivers were attacked. With the wheels you could mix and match to what runs you do,i do that with tyres on my E-type. Friend has 275 with the leather/vinyl combo in red and black. Cloth centers are always fantastic. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and grippy for cornering! The best n a sports car... congratulations on an excellent restoration.
hi, it smells new, but not like a new car from today. It has the smell of hand worked leather, oil & polished wood from the dashboard and glue - very different from a modern era new car - no plastic aroma. Hopefully it will soon have the smell of fuel and oil, hot brakes and heat soak - can't wait!!!
Hi Joe, thanks! If you recall we communicated regularly a few years ago, just after I bought the 275, you had the beautiful Miura on the books, the one with the very very low miles, ex-Middle East car. I was think of selling the 275 to have a go at the Miura. Well you can see what happened in the end - i kept the 275 and the journey began. Small world, a close friend of mine now owns that Miura over here in London after Joe Macari and his team recommissioned it. Still the best looking Miura I have ever seen in that colour combo. Hope all is well and business is good. cheers Mark
I enjoyed dealing with Joe - old-school guy - say hello to him - yes business is good (we work at it!) and we are very grateful for that.
hi here are a couple of shots of the wiring and heater vents coming together...... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mark, great job! It is simply going to be great the way you intend to use that car. Can't wait... I find it incredible, the size of the vent hoses, guess Mr. Ferrari had just seen Cousteau somewhere and figured, if he could breathe, so could you in a very 'cool' 275 Regards, Alberto
