Hi Guys I have a UK 550 that has developed an electrical problem, the left hand indicator turn signals constantly flash , even when the ignition has been switched off and the relevant fuse removed from the fuse board. i wonder if any owners have had the same problem and what the possible cause and remedy would be? many thanks in advance john
I would look at checking the hazard and turn signal switches. For starters, remove fuse by fuse and by that see if you can find which fuse delivers the power that reaches the lights, that should give you a first clue.
Hi I'm sure, that your inertia switch is bad. Had the same, a mouse ate the rubber on top of the inertia switch, and when washing the car, water came inside the switch. Got the tipp from an UK 550 owner from here. My rear light melted inside from the hot lamp. The inertia switch was used in many Italian cars from the 90's, Alfa and Fiat. So you can get them very cheap, for example ebay. Search for inertia switch from nearly all Fiat or Alfa 156 166 146 145 .... I bought some of these switches at an Italian junk yard in holiday 4 years ago Daniel
here is a new one, used for less than half of the price. ALFA ROMEO GTV Spider Notschalter Überschlagsensor crash cut off sensor 7790538 | eBay
Another one alfa romeo 147 bj02 2/3 Original crashsensor schalter 7790538 benzinstop fuel | eBay If you need help, because seller don't want to send to USA or other country, contact me per pm Daniel
And some more really cheap. And a used one is OK and works, because the Alfas and Fiat have the switch inside the cabin, not inside the engine bay near the side vents like the 550. So these switched were dry and got no water in their life. As others have said inertia switch. Simply change and problem will stop. Swapping out is challenging as not much room to get at it and the bolts that hold it.
Many Thanks to everyone that gave advice re the inhibiter switch, fitted a new one today and problem cured. Some great people on here Best regards John
