That's one of those things I get - Dave TV Top Gear all afternoon, with the silly Dave TV commercials. I was watching an old TG, where Clarkson said, "Welcome to the Christmas special". Hammond said, "but it's July, mate." Clarkson, "but not if you are watching this on Dave in 2014."

I think the "Specials" are cool as they're not as scripted - Just three guys having fun. [Except when they almost got shot in Louisiana! (?)

They were crossing Alabama at the time when they entered the "Hick Town". I was born and raised in Alabama (though a nicer part of it), so I was cringing from the moment they put those slogans on the sides of the car. I knew they really were asking for it and they just hadn't a clue - they still thought it was just silly nonsense at that point. I know some people think that scene was scripted but, knowing Alabama, I see that as a very plausible response to such things.

I quite enjoyed the custom caravan challenge where clarkson puts an apartment's block on top of a Citroen and the reliant robin clarkson crashes no end.

They are lucky they weren't shot, but there's no Civil War in Alabama.

I moved from Alabama to Pennsylvania for 2 years before coming to the UK. The people of Alabama are not still fighting the Civil War - Pennsylvanians just wrongly assume they are, and frequently promote this falsity without any first hand experience of Alabama. I lost count of how many times I was asked if I enjoyed wearing shoes now that I was living up in the civilized north... yet the city that I was born in (Huntsville, Alabama) put man on the moon.

My ex is from Tennessee and her step-mom was *annoyingly* polite!

As you said, I don't think that whole thing was staged - It's just there's certain things you don't say (or write on your car) out loud!...... I could be wrong, but believe the guys (and the camera crew etc) were genuinely shocked at the reaction.

Try driving through certain parts of Glasgow,Manchester or London with Celtic/Man Utd or Millwall are crap and I'd imagine you'd get a similarly swift reaction.
