I have recently bought this 1/43 MG model of the 166SC 008I raced by Sommer at Pescara 1948. (MG MODEL PLUS copyright) I have noted that the forward wings are different from the 008I configuration of 1948 Napoli GP (Sommer) and Vermicino -Rocca di Papa hillclimb (Vallone). Unfortunately on the only pic I have (found on Millanta's book) the forward wings are covered by sun shadow.
for easy reference you can find the mentioned 008I pics of Napoli and Vermicino races on this thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161435 the forward wings are cleary different from the model's ones
Thank you URSOENZO it is exactly the pic I have, but I really cannot state, looking to this photo, if the car configuration was the same of Napoli and Vermocino races or if the forward wings were actually as seen on kit model.
The wings on the model are wrong. Below another photo from Pescara 1948, although rather bad quality, the form of the wings can be clearly spotted. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi go to Google search. Enter "ferrari 008I" and you will get into the web site for this car. There are a lot of posts which I think will help you. just one man's opinion tongascrew
Circuito Internacional de Vila Real 1951 Do anyone know the connection between Vallone/Romano and Conde de Monte Real who apparently raced the 008I at Vila Real on 1951?. For 1951 the other entrance I have for 008I is Romano at Eifelrennen Sport. http://ferrariemportugal.blogspot.com/2006/12/1951-os-automveis-e-os-pilotos-para.html http://circuito-vilareal.blogspot.com/2009/05/corridas-na-decada-de-50.html http://feeds2.feedburner.com/FerrariEmPortugal

You can see this car on the last issue of the french magazine "Auto Retro". Few nice and recent pics on the road (Gstaad area)
Here's the scan. Not very interesting for the historians..The car is presented as a 166MM, sold new by the factory to R. Vallone, after a test with the Raymond Sommer's 159S In the last image : "how to recognize and buy a 166MM" ;-)) Authors : text by Philippe Berthonnet, and photos by Frederic Veillard for Auto Retro magazine Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes i can (but my english is not very well), it's the same car who etienne has post the scan. this car is in a bunker near berne. the littel town in the swiss mountains calling Gstaad. But it was rebuilt, becaus first the chassis was mountet on this car here (Testarossa?). Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, #008I. Which of course was no 159, but a 166. The "test" was the Vermicino - Rocco di Papa hillclimb on 14 Nov 1948. Vallone finished 2nd behind Bracco with #012I. The car sold and delivered to Vallone was #008I, unchanged, except a new radiator grille which received nearly all Spyder Corsas during the winter. Possibly even the cigarette stub could be found under the clutch pedal where Roberto dropped it some months earlier. There was no reason for renumbering, because Vallone exactly knew what he would get - a 1948 SF works car. He wanted no MM, because he intended to race sports car events and also Formula 2 (with fenders and lights removed).
