Shows up with pic as 6029 in 330 Registry; nothing about the year rebody was done. Absolutely beautiful.
Looking at the photos I can imagine that some of the original 330 body may have been retained. What do others think? And if so which bits?
I really cant see anything 330 GT 2+2 on this cars body. I thinks its a complete new body(maybe alloy?). Even the windows are new. Tom
It says that this body was taken from 250 GT Boano s/n 0579 GT, but does not state when this was done.
OK, I didn't see that part of the entry at first look. With the current market prices for "stock" Boanos, and guessing that this body came off a bonafide special-bodied example, I'd say that the conversion was done at least 30 years ago. The Registry pic looks grainy, and I can't name the tires, but they look to be '60s-'70s vintage.
I like the car but I thought Boano was a coachbuilder. If so then it isn't Scaglietti bodied is it? I've never seen a Boano look like this. Is it a 330 based car or 250 Boano. Or is it a 330 with a special body from a 250 Boano? I'm guessing the latter.
Looks like some sort of nylon strap hanging from the front end. Looks like somebody had to tow it out of the garage for the photo. When was the picture taken?
I think you're looking at 6027GT. That's RHD. 6029GT is LHD http://www.parrotbyte.com/330GTRegistry/Detail/SN_6029.html Raab/Urban agree as well. Interestingly Raab lists the car coming with seatbelts!
Let me clarify. This 250 GT series of cars, ranging in chassis number from 0429 GT to 0675 GT, is currently referred to as "Boano" to distinguish the cars from the earlier 250 GT (Europa) and later 250 GT (Ellena) and then 250 GT (Pinin Farina). In actuality, several of the early examples in the series were bodied by Pinin Farina, as were a number of specials. To my knowledge, the car referred to here (0579 GT) was bodied in alloy by Boano. If the information about this 330 GT is correct, however, then we can assume that 0579 was either a Boano that was later rebodied by Scaglietti or was a "Boano" series car that was orginally bodied by Scaglietti. Personally, I have no idea which scenario - if either - is the correct one.
My take: An original Boano-bodied 250 GTB (chassis #0579) was rebodied by Scaglietti, perhaps 1960-ish. That new body was subsequently removed from chassis #0579 and mounted on the 330 chassis. The final Scaglietti body to 330 chassis move was done ca. late 1960's-early 1970's, when these cars were cheap. It's drop-dead good looking, whatever the history.
