Hello everybody here at the Ferrari forums, I am hoping someone would have the knowledge and explain the vin# to me on this 1963 GTE that I am researching.. VIN 001963330FGTE Thank you for any help you could spare..
My guess is that a standard VIN won't work in the state's computer system. They selected 00 1963 330 F GTE F likely standing for Ferrari and 330 standing for 330 engine, which means it is a Ferrari GTE series 3 with a replacement 330 engine or a 330 America. Regards, Art S.
You would think that they would try to incorporate the actual four digit ID number in there also. But I remember when I registered my first Ferrari and they tried to license it as a Fiero. After paying the fee based on their estimate of value I should have let them go with Fiero.
My guess would be it's one of the unfortunate "donor" car bodies with its chassis & engine repurposed for recreation of some sort or spare parts and with those gone, some one decided to resurrect the leftovers with imaginary VIN.
A google of that vin comes up with this 1963 Ferrari Other GTE | eBay Is this the car? Pictures uploaded for posterity. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Turns out to be 4769 GT, a Series III car that was made into a Drogo replica in the late 1980's. Interestingly enough, the GTE body is currently on a VW chassis with a VW engine...
Was for sale at DD Classics in London. Has dry sump and finned gearbox. Body built by Mario Allegretti modelled on the body that was on 250 GTO 3445GT. As I understand it, the body of GTO 3445 GT was replaced with a Drogo body and this is a replica of that Drogo body.
