I put my wheels for sale on ebay too. Nearly perfect condition from my 79 308. Lugs, center caps, even the Pirelli tires. High bid was only $500. Obviously they didn't sell. If anybody has any interest in these let me know. I'll send you pictures. They are 14" and in fantastic condition. On of the center caps has a scratch on it, the others are very clean. I replaced with 16" chromed 550 style wheels from speedline. They look sharp! |

congrats, I think you got a great deal. I know a guy in Dallas that rebuilds shocks, but you can probably find someone anywhere. this guy specializes in race applications and does work for several pros. cheap too, this is the guy that helps me with my race car for $30 an hour. let me know if you want to talk with him. |

Here's something I just won this morning, I think its the buy of the century (well for me at least). I won't install these just yet, but in time I'll clean them up, incorporate Steve Magnusson's spring-lowering-perches... It'll be butter smooth! (Thank goodness, they have the rebuild procedure in the WSM, very detailed surprisingly). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=595150185&r=0&t=0 |

Bill S. -- I agree (if they are the stock Mag type)-- with shipping and refinishing the buyer should be well inside $2K for the deal. (Although I bet this 16" Mag/Alum thing will get more confused in the future as people start to resell the Alum type -- caveat emptor!) |

yes sir, plus, I would sleep at night knowing I stole some wheels at about $500 less than they were worth. however, ebay is such an efficient market with all the potential buyers, that you really can't get a steal deal anymore. problem is, my local farm auctions usually don't have 16" ferrari wheels. |

Sorry Rob. It looks like your car already has 16-inch wheels. What would you have done with the spare set, put racing rubber on them? Bill |

yes, I was watching these and was going to bid up to $700, but with missing caps and in need of paint, then $1,200 was a little high, I think. Of course, $700 would of been a steal. At $450 with under 2 days to go I was getting my hopes up and then sure enough, last day bidders did it in. |

Steve, The wheels went for $1281 plus shipping. The buyer did very well. Bill |

Stu, I haven't selected tires yet either. I have an excellent set of TRX wheels and stock size Michelin tires for road use so I'm not in a hurry to fit the new wheels. I'm thinking a set of R1A's would be great for occasional street or track use at Lime Rock. Pirelli, P-zeros were highly recommended for general-purpose use by one Ferrari parts supplier. I'm inclined to select a stock tire size to avoid clearance problems and minimize unsprung weight, but I'm not sure what the late model QV sizes were. I believe they were wider and of a lower profile at the back. I'm also not sure how large a tire the spare compartment will accommodate. Bill |

Hey Bill, just curious...what type and size tire did you end up with for your new wheels? I'm shopping and am having a difficult time deciding. Thanks! |

Stu, My delivered price was about $1530 delivered, including about $13 duty. Steve, I appreciate low unsprung weight. It'd be interresting to weigh the bare wheels and quantify the differences for 16-inch front and back wheels and also the TRX versions. It'll also be interresting to see how much they finally sell for. |

Bill S. -- (If I still had a 308) I'd probably go the Superformance way too (rather than $3K+ for a stock set), but I don't think that the Magnesium ones will ever be less than the Aluminum reproductions (although I certainly agree with your point that lower demand should reduce the stock price/value). If someone could put this deal together (acquisition + refinishing) for the low $2K, even $2.5K, I think that would be a great value JMHO (but then again I like/value such esoteric engineering details). |

I would agree with bill - very pleased with wheels from Superformance. And they have a special going on now...about $1,500 for the set which includes caps and shipping! |

Steve, They are probably worth 2-3k to somebody who insists on originality. They may also be a few pounds lighter, but I don't think I'd trade the new reproduction wheels I purchased from Superformace for them. In my mind, this would cap their value in the 1-2k range IMHO. Bill |

I think we all learn to bid at the last moment on the stuff we want on eBay. Maybe the seller knows these will get bid up appropriately, but $50 first bid with no reserve seemed a little suspicious to me. (I would have used at least a $2K reserve price and be hoping for $3K). |

I too have been watching these wheels on ebay....hell of a price.........but believe me they will skyrocket in the last minutes...I already went the path on bidding on some others awhile back...I was the high bidder for 6 days and in the last few minutes they went about 500.00 higher than my bid. |

Do you guys think this is a scam? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=595014108&r=0&t=0 (I know that I'd insist on escrow -- but somebody should bid $1K~$1.5K on these!) |
