A belt "inspection" will only tell you if they need changing right away; that is there is visual confirmation of physical damage. It is still no guaranty that these is not internal problems or whatever... The conventional wisdom as Doody says is to do it at 30k or 5 years. If the car is driven regularly, I see no reason not to stretch that to 6 or even 7 years...but the risk is entirely yours. |

Agreed, I am trying not to jump to conclusions. There may be a misunderstanding. I'll have to speak to a tech. BTW, does anyone know if there is a way to simply check the belts to see if they need changing? Thanks again. |

I have had nothing but trouble with Ferrari of Long Island. The work they did on both of my cars had to be redone or corrected. Not only that, but they kept my cars for inordinate amounts of time when I brought them in with no follow-up calls to let me know what they were doing. I wouldn't trust them again. Since then, I have found some good mechanics in the area that work on Ferraris, back their work and know what they are doing. |

i wouldn't jump down FOLI's throat just yet. you were speaking to "the young lady at the service desk" not one of the techs (if i may be sexist and presumptuous for a moment). 30K/5yrs is the CW. she may have simply mis-spoken or mis-remembered. doody. |

Why not? If FofLI can get "idiots" to believe this, it only means more money in their pockets! ONLY in New York!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I know this is an old topic, but I just heard some interesting advice. I called Ferrari of Long Island to make a service appointment for the 82 Mondial I just got. It had a 30K service 5,000 miles ago, but 5 years ago. The young lady at the service desk said she believes Ferrari of Long Island recommend that the belts be changed every 4 years or 15,000 miles. First, no matter what they or anyone else says, that is OUT of the question. It makes me wonder if going there is a great idea. Anyone hear anything similar? Perhaps she is mistaken. The manual says about 50K miles, with no time limit, if I recall correctly, while the conservative approach is 30k or five years. Thanks Sam |
