Hi All,

I have just checked the box that the mirror comes in and they actually come with both of the plastic inserts (they just aren't available seperately)

For European applications, if you have just broken the black plastic part of the mirror, this part appers identical to the fiat Strada/fiat Regatta electric mirror, although the glass itself may have a different convex curve and supplied, of course without the little Ferrari Sheild

I got the forward (curved) cover from www.ferraripartsexchange.com, $25 (ouch). They had them reproduced.

Mark, what about the black plastic covers
that covers the openings front and aft on the mirror base?
Availability and price?

I did think of the 288 GTO mirrors, but I would like some assurance from someone with them, that they are not only an improvement, but a good improvement. I don't really care too much about originality on my 308. That ship left port in the early 80's for this car. As for the source you quote, I bought a bunch of suspension parts off Jim Carpenter and never got sway bars paid for and promised. I wouldn't buy anything from him again. He plays the disappearing person on follow ups for the parts.

Here I am again: When I removed the paint and filler from my doors I found no less than 8 holes (for parker-screws) each side...my car had some history with mirrors!

This means you have to close the original holes, and remove the traces that the old mirror left in the paint, problably means respraying the doors (you have to paint the mirrors anyway)

Mule,
haven't got them yet, but they are hand-adjustable, ready to paint and bolt on with 1 larger (8mm?) bolt I think.
Source Jim Carpenter, Phoenix, Arizona. He is the one from the GTO kits. "race308" is his ebay name, [email protected]

Bert,
About the GTO replica mirrors:
What was your source?
Are they electric?
Do they bolt and electrically plug (if electric) right on?
Do they come painted?

Those 328 mirrors look so cheap and are so expensive! It IS a good thing that the original mirrors are available though.
When I was tired of tightening the adjustment screws from the Vitaloni California mirrors that came with my '80 US 308GTSi I bought, meant as a temporary solution before a 3200 km round trip to Barcelona, some cheap aftermarket mirrors that looked like the baby Vitalonis (about $10 l+r). They had good vision so I kept them.
You can look for mirrors from other cars if you don't care for originality: Citroen CX has nice door mounted mirros. Or Audi 80, they can be made to fit and can be painted. They look a bit to streamlined and modern for a 308 though, I tried them but decided for: replica-GTO mirrors! I expect them this week, l+r $400+$50 shipping to Europe

Apropos, does anyone know a source for the Vitaloni Tornado mirrors ?

>Available from Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc. Also lots of places on the web. Cheap also!

Apparently Vitaloni products have been back ordered for over 9 months.

>They aren't 328, but the Vitalloni 'Baby Turbo'
mirrors are very close to the Euro 308 QV mirrors.

the Euro 308 QV mirrors were the Vitaloni Turbo model - larger and slightly different design than the baby turbo

I didn't see any parts listing at either site for the 328 mirrors. Do you remember where and what they cost?

Ferrari UK didn't have my 328 mirror last time I looked. ferraribooks.com had it though, I just can't afford it yet.

Have you checked with the owners site? They're usually MUCH cheaper than the dealer.

The baby turbo mirrors just don't do it for me. I've been in cars with them and find the view poor. As I've been told several times before:"go big or go home". I've reviewed all sorts of mirrors. Check out my latest photographs of my 308 for the mirrors bonded to the side glass. Not really great even with shims on the mechanism. They look good though.
I guess part of it is the fact that I'm 6 foot tall.

They aren't 328, but the Vitalloni 'Baby Turbo'
mirrors are very close to the Euro 308 QV mirrors.

Housings are almost identical, mounting pedestal is slightly different. Less fragile I think.

Available from Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc. Also lots of places on the web. Cheap also!

Non-power of course.

Does anyone have a source for 328 mirrors, left and right? I don't really care about the electric control. Either used original, or clone will do. I'm not sure I want to know the dealer price for these. I'm hoping to fit this to my '78 308 to improve rear vision. Thanks in advance

Evan
