Thanks for that Malcolm, but i think for the price of one of those i may as well take it to my mechanic to have a look at it. Also the more i think about it the more i believe it may be an earthing issue, ie: surely the oil temp will always increase, so if that is also giving a bad reading it points to a common fault. Anyway its booked in tomorrow.

Thanks Darren.

Darren,

You can probably purchase a kit from Sykes Pickavant at www.sptools.co.uk or as you are in London, my local tool supplier can supply a Draper kit (387A) or a choice of kits from Sealey (VSE203 or VS203). They are called Woodford Tools, telephone number 01784-888555, ask for Jeremy and say that you have spoken to me. These kits come with various adaptors and you will need an 18mm x 1.5 (thread pitch)adaptor for the 348.

The workshop manual states that the oil pressure should read 5.5 - 6.5 bar with the engine running at 6000rpm with an oil temperature of 100 degrees centigrade. At idle with a warm engine, a pressure of less than 4.5 bar is to be considered normal.

Hi Malcolm, the fault is new and happened well after the service, as for the oil and filter, i have no idea what is being used as that is done by guy who services my car. I guess they shouldn't be the problem as it is a recent fault? Can you give me an idea where i can get a master guage, and how much it would be?

Thanks.

Darren,

The best way to accurately check your oil pressure is to remove the oil pressure sender unit and install a master guage, this will confirm that all is, or isn't well inside the engine.

Has this problem just occured or has it been since the service, what oil are you running on and what make of oil filter are you using ?

Pressure sensor is screwed in to the Oil Filter housing just forward of the filter, it's a cylinder approx 1.5" long and 1.5" dia. It has two cable connections, a larger (6.3mm) supplying the gauge and a smaller one supplying the Oil pressure warning lamp, it earths through the engine.

To test run a known good earth (from bodywork or battery) to body of sensor and see if the problem persists, if it works OK then it's an engine earth problem, if it doesn't then it's either the sensor or something more terminal.

The temp sensor is probably in the bottom of the Oil Tank, this has one cable connection.

Thanks for the replys guys, i dont think its the oil or the filter as these were changed at the last service 3 months ago, i may look into the sensor and grounding though. Anyone know where the scensor is located? and would it also relate to low oil temp?

Thanks Darren.

Darren

Could just be a sensor problem, if the gauge is going to 10 bar it would suggest the sender diaphram is weak, for the sake of $50 odd it's worth swaping it out

Also worth checking your engine earths

Not sure where the Oil stat is,

Try a fill with Mobil 1 0W-30 and change the filter. Make sure you empty the large oil pipes. Let me know what this does. What is the warm temperature of the engine? What is the real pressure? Does 10 mean 100 PSI?

Most wear in an engine occurs with thicker oils when engines are not fully warmed up or when racing oils that are too thick for around town driving at cooler engine temperatures are used. Big mistake, 'most common misconception amoung sports car owners.

Hi, i hope you guy's can help. My 348 has developed some high oil pressure (well it says so on the gauge) it goes up to 10 (max) by about 3500rpm, i have also noticed that the oil temp barely rises. Dose anyone have any ideas?
