My mechanic heated up a open end wrench of the whatever size fits bent the neck few inches back about 45 degrees an shaved some metal off the wrench making it thin enough to get in there. Worked great.

I've been there, several times. I have found that a socket will also fit on the nut near the rear bank if the middle nut is removed first and the pipe is moved away, but it is tight.

Hehehe, keep an eye on the oil hose banjo copper washers since you've been taking this thing off a zillion times already...

I understand how you feel. One would think it would be an easy job, since its right there, in plain view, on top of the engine!

Sears Craftsman "Gearwrenches" can speed things up a bit to remove the nuts.

Folks,

I have had the pleasure of removing my oil filter pedestal on my 308 GT4 three times, and I wanted to give you all the benefit of my sore back. First time I thought the gasket was gone, as there was an oil leak in the valley. Still leaked. Did it again. Found out it was coming out of the end of the oil light sensor, one drip at a time. Got that replaced and all was fine for a week or so. Then my oil pressure gauge went dead. Bad news is you can't replace the gauge sender without taking the pedestal off...unless you make a really weird tool. The nut nearest the front bank distributor will take 1/8 turn, then flip the wrench, another 1/8 and so on. The one near the rear bank is a little better, no need to flip the wrench. The one in the middle will come off with a socket wrench if you take the oil light sender out first. Bottom line...if you ever take this puppy off, replace the oil gauge sender anyway, they seem to need replacing about every 20K miles anyway.

The Ferrari engineer who designed this deal wins points for making the oil filter easy to remove...but he loses them and then some for making the pressure sender inaccessible, and he loses his place in the firmament for making the pedestal impossible to remove in less than an hour.

If someone knows a better way, please educate the rest of us, and spare us from the evil engineer.
