'82 308. Exactly 8Km (5 mi) from light on to dry tank. Coasted into gas station, pushed it the last yard.

Unfortunately I know the capacity of my 77 308 tanks. I ran it bone dry at Gingerman the other week (132 miles). 18.5 gals give or take a quart. |

When I drive on the road (safe and sane speeds), my gas guage is dead nuts acurate (F355). But when I drive on a race track, the tank with the gas guage in it seems to stay filled, and the guage reads 1/3rd more gas than exists in the pair of tanks. The tracks I drive seem to pump gas to the passenger tank. So, the only accurate reading I get at the track is at startup, or 10 minutes after I stop the car. |

Same thing with the Mondial. If I fill up when the light just stays on solid, The most I can fit is about 13 gal. If I drive around for about 100 miles with the light on , I can fit 16-17 gallons in. The owners manual says the fuel tank capacity is 18.5 gallons . the reserve is 4 gallons. The amber light is called the "reserve warning light". So, I guess this means that the light comes on solid when you are down to the last 4 gallons ? Sounds about right. Tom |

Total capacity for 308 series cars in general seems to be about 18, maybe 20 gallons. True capacity is a mystery, as is when to fill up. If I fill up at the first sign of a warning light, I can only get perhaps 10 gallons into it. I usually drive around until hard right corners no longer extinguish the warning lamp, then maybe a bit longer, and only then will I fill up, using around 16-18 gallons. In other words, I don't have a clue. |

The info on my car says I have "Two 70-80 litre tanks". Does this mean: 1) I have a tank that holds 70 and one that holds 80? 2) I have 2 tanks that hold somewhere between 70 -80 liters? 3) I have gas tanks that have variable volume capacity? 4) The total volume of both tanks combined is somewhere between 70-80 liters (appx 18 gallons)? Next question: I ran the car down to the point where the fuel light came on. I drove the car 114 miles but when I filled it, it only took 12 gallons of fuel. My gas mileage seems good (LOL good = 9 mpg) nevertheless, 12 gallons is like 45 liters. At 70-80 liters per tank, the capacity should be 37 - 42 gallons and 360 miles. Any thoughts here? |
