thanks for the responses guys and i'll likely be in touch with you as time marches on but regarding my question, other than being louder what else might result from replacing all those resonators with straight pipes?
any opinions or advice is appreciated.thanks.

Sorry Brett I don't have the headers. Thoses are getting to be really hard to find and they are hugely expensive if you can find a set in good shape. I would take the car to a raceshop and see if they can make you a set, follwing the curves of the originals. I'm not to sure how much they would charge, but I bet it would be cheaper then buying used ones.

Tom, one more thing, does "complete" exhaust mean that you have headers??? if so than that is something i would be interested in as mine are getting very thin in the usual areas.

Hey Tom, i'll keep that in mind but it is not because my exhaust systeems needs replacing that i ask this question. i would remove mine, sand it , paint it, and put it away in case i had to put it back on.
Bill, you're right, weight savings on this pig was not an issue, and yes, an outragously loud 400 would be stupid but it's ancestors up to the 365gt4 2+2 all had greater volume. i do understand your point however and appreciate your input.

Brett,

I took a look at the 400 parts manual and was blown away buy the complexity exhaust system shown.

If you replace all the resonators with straight pipes you will definately change the sound, probably too much. I don't think this would be in character with the car, but you'll have to be the judge of that.

You will loose maybe a hundred pound of weight, probably not enough to notice performance wise. I don't know if interior heat is an issue on your car but the reduced exhaust surface area will be smaller so less heat will enter the car. You may improve access to surrounding components. Engine breathing may improve and this may require some carb adjustments. Also, you may have to fabricate a few brackets to properly support the modified exhaust system.

I was hoping to replace the two sets of three resonators that run between the headers and the Ansa mufflers with straight pipes but was hoping to get some advice first.Other than a much more robust sound (which would be welcomed), what might some of the other ramifications be,either good or bad ??? Thanks
