Guys,

Ted Rutlands and GT Car Parts have them for much less. On my gt4 however the stock bottom line was so short that it kinked when installed like a bent straw. I ended up getting a hose from a later car which was a couple of inches longer and seemed to fit perfectly. Inside the old one I found a cam shaft cap alignment dowel trapped in the banjo fitting which must have fallen when the "expert mechanic did the major service before I got it. Funny thing is when I did my major previous to this I found a missing dowel and replaced it. ;-)

Dont forget to replace the copper washers.

Nice, for once a reasonable cost repair! Hopefully the labor was not too bad....

Well gentlemen oil leak is fixed. I had hose removed from car seemed as though crimp around fitting was loose. I took hose to a close friends hydraulic hose company, and had fitting recrimped. The leak is fixed cost $0.

Seems to be some argument on the "re-usability" issue. Perhaps there is more than one design. However, the first guy I ever heard of re-using them said that disassembly is not at all obvious. Not sure what he meant.

Nice to know the banjo fittings are re-usable. Had to replace both hoses, the hosemaker told me they didn't have the correct ID hose and the banjo fittings were a on shot deal...oh well..this was last summer. Cost me 800.00 for both hoses...

Skip, give me some time. The hose builder I used supplied us with hydraulic hoses used in the aircraft refuelers I made a few years ago and since we got orders for more refuelers, we'll be using him again. When I see him, I'm going to order a whole pile of fittings and disperse them to those who need (hoses are readily available, its the banjos that are hard to get...).

Just for the record. I recently had a set of replacement hoses made up using the existing banjo's. I also had a 'by-pass' hose made to put in place of the oil cooler while I waited for a new cooler to come. The whole set only cost me 58 and just in case you're doubtful, the pipes are rated to over 1000psi. No problems.

Peter, Where did you get the fittings? Do you have a part number for them?

That's me that Dave Handa is refering to and yes, I did save some big coin by having new hoses made, including new ends (which were hard to locate and took some time, but then, I could wait anyways). In my case, I needed new ends as one of the hoses was the very original one from 1975 and was in one piece (ferrule and banjo) which could not be salvaged. Besides, it was a corroded piece of s--- anyways and I was trying my best to make the engine bay clean and shiny. Nothing looks better than new gold-cad plating! Ask Jay Grande!!

$200Cdn all said-and-done (two hi-pressure hydraulic hoses, four fittings and labor).

Philip-

That was the total for both hoses!

They used the original 'Banjos', and no leaks since.

The Banjo fittings are reusable, unless you've fried them, i.e. cracked or distorted.

Jay,you're sources are wrong; possibly they got ripped off?

Usually it's the hose; not the fitting that goes bad.

Dave Bendl had some made up with Aeroquip (sp) ends. $100 - 120 per hose I think.

If you have the time, it may be worth the effort to check and see if it is cheaper to have some made. If I remember correctly, Peter Rychel had some made for his GT4, and the only trick was finding/sourcing the fittings, and he did save some $$$.

Try Ferrari UK, usually cheaper. I bought mine from Trutlands for the GT4. Get it now before it blows! I'd be reluctant to have one made, heard some horror stories of it costing more than an OE hose once you add fittings.

You can have a hydraulic hose shop make one up.

Bring in your old hose, they'll reuse the old banjo fittings.

I have a friend who had both of his done a few years ago. The price then was about $100 for two of them.

That reminds me, I have one seeping that I need to take care of.
