Thanks guys - I don't have a winter! lol I like the idea of taking off what knobs I can & masking off the rocker switches. Trust me, if something can be screwed up by taking off the console, I'll screw it up! I am definitely taking out the seats though. My Leatherique arrived yesterday & I'm just awaiting my car coming out of the shop. |

Martin. Redying my 328 interior-tan-is a winter project. Did you use leatherique or someone else's product. What product would you recommend. Also can you tell me what color code you used. I am told that 3218 is the correct code for a tan interior. |

Jerry, I have just re-dye'd all the interior in my 328 including the centre console. I tried to remove it but gave up in the end. Instead I very carefull masked off all the switches, removed the ash tray and used a cloth and very small paint brush. It took about two hours in total and the finish is great. I found it better to let the liquid 'thicken' slightly before applying. Oh - also take out the seats first. Hope this helps. Martin. |

You probably should get the plastic frames around the controls out of the way to re-dye the leather. You can remove the twist knob connectors without taking the wires off the connectors, but the heater controls and rocker switches come out through the top, so you either have to dye around the wires or unplug them. It's not so much "a lot" of work, but you have to pay attention to details to keep from putting it back wrong. It's not difficult, but slow and methodical gets it done. A good winter project, for those who actually have winter. |

Hmmm, seems like a lot of work here. Maybe it would be easier to just keep it in to re-dye? Thanks for the responses! |

All the switches and associated plugs should be marked with corresponding colored dots. Should help on reassembly. Do you want to remove the entire center console with front tunnel or just the top with the switches? The center console is fastened to the floor on both sides with a number of Philips screws. You will need to take out the seats first to get access, the top part with all the switches and the gearshift guide. I think you also need to unscrew the auxilliary electrical board (the passenger footrest) to get access to the front of the tunnel. I am writing this from memeory, so take that into account, please. Just go ahead and you will see what is needed. |

I think we covered this before. Under the ash tray is one screw to remove the console top. The other is at the rear. If you gently pry up one of the heater controls, you can then push the rocker switches up from underneath. From the rocker switch holes you can get to the aft screw, and then the top lifts off. If you're going to remove all the switches, get a big roll of labels, so you can keep track of where all the billyuns and billyuns of wires came from -- for when it's time to put it all together again. Make copious notes, re control placement, etc. (Rather than try to figure it out from peering at the owner's manual later.) If you pull up the floor mats, you can probably see the screws holding down the forward pocket/divider and the sides of the console. Be careful of the ammonia filled capillary tube running from the aircon temp control, under the console, and up to the evaporator (under the pass side dash). You don't want to break that, as it's a major league b*tch to replace. |

I am going to re-dye my center console - What is the correct way to remove it? Anything I should watch out for? Thanks! |
