PS: I had this car at the Concours judging at the FCA National meet at Sebring last April (it was not judged - I was there with a friend) and the calipers got gobs of attention and nothing but compliments (maybe the people who didn't like it were too polite to say anything...???). |

The self-levelling characteristics of the paint are what makes it look so good. It flows out beautifully and looks baked on. The color I used is yellow. I have a red kit also to try to paint the FERRARI raised logo but it looks too tough. Had I painted the calipers black, red or a dark color, I would have gone over the letters with a mini-grinder to let the aluminum stand out in contrast. Aluminum against yellow doesn't cut it. Actually I put 3 coats on the front calipers and had some paint left over. It is a 2-part epoxy (4 oz color, 1 oz catalyst) so you get 5 oz of paint, but once catalyzed it must be used. It took me 2 hours of just painting (not counting cleaning, taping, etc) for this car. I would not use this on any mating surface since it is relatively thick compared to even engine enamel. I have had great luck with Eastwoods Stainless Steel coating (http://www.eastwoodco.com/department.asp?PageLen=08&PageNo=3&SKW=TSC9&Dep_Key1=spc&cat=Specialty+Coatings&SubCat=Exhaust+System) but I'm sure any of their high-temp coatings would work. If you just want to dress up the visible (non-mating) part of the rotor either mask carefully or have a machine shop remove the surface glaze (and any errant coating) from the rotor afterwards. |

The paint is also brushed not sprayed. Were you able to really get a good self leveling coat? Was the 4oz provided really enough for 4 calipers 2 coats? Thanks, |

Jim, I think it looks good. Is your pint gold or yellow? By the Eastwod link the gold looks yellow and yellow kind of orange. |

What about the drum part of the rotor? Can you use it and will it withstand the heat? Mine show thru with the HRE wheels and I am thinking of paint, but maybe this is better option. (I am worried about getting a perfect circle though.) Is there a shop that does the rotors? I agree it looks nice, btw. |

With a very steady hand one could paint red over the raised FERRARI letters on the calipers, but it would be tricky. The newer cars have a flat caliper with some sort of decal that can take the heat. Cleaning is no problem since the brake dust comes off just by spraying wheel cleaner. Two more squirts per wheel. Ya gotta wash the wheels anyway, right? The rustoleum products will discolor in the heat. This product took track sessions without a blemish. |

All rustoleum paints work extremely well for this application and cost far cheaper. |

The problem with that is that you have to drive the car, and then you have to wash them. Too much effort. Art |

After painting the calipers on my Corvette, I went over the raised CORVETTE lettering with sandpaper and polished to a smooth, shiny silver. That's one approach to 'reviving' the FERRARI on the calipers - the other obviously would be to paint over the lettering [my vote would be red lettering or perhaps black]. I like the yellow calipers - good move. |

Any way to replace the "FERRARI" logo on those where it is painted on over the color? |

I agree with you. It picks up the yellow in the badges and looks great on your car. |

At the risks of infuriating the "if-it-aint-stock-its-bad" crowd I repainted the calipers on my 1994 512TR yellow (see photos). I think it brings out the yellow in the scuderia badges and the wheel center caps and I think it looks great. The coating kit is sold through Eastwood (http://www.eastwoodco.com/Department.asp?SKW=TSC6&Dep_Key1=spc&Cat=Specialty+Coatings&SubCat=Brake) and is a snap to apply. The epoxy 2-part coating is as hard as nails and immune to wheel cleaners etc. It dries very smooth and glossy - almost like ceramic. These photos show the coating after almost 8K miles of use and 2 track sessions with NO change whatsoever. The kit contains a cleaner, brush and the material and explicit instructions. I did mine on the car with only some careful taping, a steady hand and some patience. I put 2 coats on each caliper. It gives your ferrari a custom touch and can always be returned to the original black with little fuss.
