Thanks Tyson! Hey Roberto, any luck yet? Those are 16" new repros. Have a recent receipt from previous owner for about $1900.

Steve,

One of my biggest worries with this vintage of car is that from reading this forums, lots of owners have yanked the emissions equipment, which can be very expensive to replace. Also, modifications have been made which could make it tougher to pass emissions in California.

Seems you have gotten lucky and found one that can pass the strongest emissions tests in Sacramento!

I hope you are enjoying every minute of your 308 ownership! Looks like it has updated rims as well (16")?

Sunday is family BBQ for me so I can't make it either, Art. Next time. Roberto, I saw a small inconspicuous no photo ad I think on the FCA website cars for sale section about 6 or 7 weeks ago. What got my attention was that it was in Sacramento, about 2+ hours away and was a Calif. car with 37k mi. Lots of recent service in the last 1500 miles to include belts, tensioners, seals, water pump, carb tune, rear calipers, radiator recondition, new Pirellis, and more. Also it passed a tougher smog test in Sacto. than we have here on the coast. Paint is good but not show quality with little touch-ups here and there. No ppi but I did talk at length with the seller's mechanic with the proposition that I might buy the car and have him continue to service it, therefore hoping to get an honest opinion. "An above average car" is how he put it. Then I had a local Ferrari tech call the seller's tech for a sort of "virtual second opinion". He gave it a passing grade too although only based on a conversation with a mechanic he doesn't know personally. Then I went to look and made a deposit that day. Picked up the car a week later and here I am a month or so later with a big smile.

Steve,

Art mentioned a drive this Sunday. From the general thread and in case you are interested, they are meeting at a cafe in Half Moon Bay at 8am. By your neck of the woods.

I don't know the Santa Cruz area as well as I could, but I love to drive up the 9, bear creek road, and of course Skyline (35) when there is no traffic (which is very rare indeed). On weekends though you have to avoid a lot of motorcycles riding fast mixed in with tourists driving very slowly. Which often proves to be a deadly mix!

I have always wanted a red one, even before the tv series made it popular. But I have seen some beautiful blue machines. Have you seen the pictures of Terry Springers 77 GTB in Dino blue?

'76-'77 - thermal reactors, different camshafts, different look to the exhaust system than later cars. In my opinion, the cleanest of the 308's.

More important than color or year is condition. How did you get yours? Did you have a PPI before buying it? How did you find it?

Have a great weekend!

Roberto, your car search is much like mine was, GTB, Calif. car for smog and no rust, but I wanted a blue one. When this red GTS popped up I looked and couldn't resist. Did you know that '78 was the first year for cats and before that the 308's had thermal reactors? Good thing you are going for red. Your non-car guy friends wouldn't understand a Ferrari in any other color. I'm going for a drive this afternoon. What are your favorite roads in the Santa Cruz area? Lately it has been rather crowded around here but actually better than a few years ago during the "dot-com boom". Most of those commuters to Silicon Valley are gone now.

Steve, I have narrowed my selection to a 1976-1977 308 GTB, probably in red, and from California (because of smog equipment) although I am not quite ready to purchase yet. I have always admired the lines of the 308 more than any other recent fcar. From research on this board I have learned that I can do much of my own maintenance on the early carb models, and the sound is simply amazing. I have wanted a 308 for more than twenty years, but haven't seriously considered ownership until recently.

This board is great, some members have done so much to enhance their cars and care for them. The information is invaluable. Terry Springer has updated a carb 308 beautifully!

I hope you are now able to get some sleep. Santa Cruz has excellent roads for your car. Enjoy!

Roberto, yes the previous owner changed them from black to red. Gives the car a different look but I will be changing them back to orig. when some other touch up painting is done. Do you have a particular year/model/color picked out for your future purchase?

Steve:

It looks live the louvres have been painted the same color as the car. Was that a modification made by the previous owner? I have never seen a GTS with the louvres painted in the color of the body.

I am kind of new here, but don't know what is included in the Schedoni editions. Would love to know what you find out!

I hope you are enjoying that wonderful sound behind your ears everytime you drive. And hope to join you in 308 ownership some time in the near future!

Hi guys, It looks like my new to me '78 GTS is not one of the Schedoni leather interior cars according to Mr. Simone Schedoni after reviewing the list of serial #'s in his possession. Why it has some Schedoni features is under investigation. Anyway, here is a pic. 16" wheels with Pirelli SP7000's, Corbeau seats, and a Momo steering wheel were added by the previous owner. It also came with the orig. wheels, seats, and steering wheel. Here is a pic.Upload

Steve:

We do drives, and I used to race a little: AMA Superbikes, and BOTT. Never raced cars, but do have a shifter cart that I play with. Let us know when you're around. We meet early am in either half moon bay or Ferrari of Sf for drives.

Thanks everyone for the warm hellos. I'll be at the Concorso but not with my new/old 308. I signed up before purchase so will be in the non-Italian corral with a '62 silver Corvette. No Vincent, I don't surf....used to race a little though. I'll try to get a pic on my profile page asap....probably after this weekend. Going to the Historics Sat. I'll keep an eye out for a drive in the Half Moon Bay area. Now I have to go out to the garage and see if it is still red.

Are you going to the concorso? I think I'll be going for Friday, but I'll take the plane, rather than the 355.

Steve,

We get together every so often, so far either in Marin or in half moon bay, though I would like to push a napa trip.

Most of our excursions get posted on the main board with a thread that usually starts with the words Bay Area.

Let's see a pic of your car, i love the look of the 308's. It's been almost six months for me and I still go into the garage to make sure it's for REAL!!! Congrats.

Vincent.

O.K., now I know what the big deal is about. I've lost 5 lbs. in the last week, I can hardly sleep, and I want to spend most of my time in the garage just looking and touching! 1978 Red GTS. Drove 175 miles from Sacramento to Santa Cruz for the first drive as the new owner...sweating bullets all the way in 95+ temps. Temp gage never went over the first tick past 195....200 maybe? Even in stop and go freeway traffic. Has anyone heard of a series of cars (about 19 total) that were pulled off the assembly line to have Shedoni install a complete custom leather interior? This car is apparantly one of those. Frosted horse on each vent wing, special saddle color leather interior, etc.
