Doody,

No appeal without getting involved in a process that has more risk than reward.

The CT tax situation is pretty outragious. The income tax is independent of the federal, in that they take your gross plus any non CT municipal income and take 5% of that, virtually no deductions. And property tax, and sales tax and this personal property tax.

We lived in Texas for 5 years before moving back to New England and it was property tax, sales tax and no income tax...a great deal compared to here.

Man, CT sucks! They really ream people for everything related to cars. The gasoline taxes there alone are reason enough to move! And don't even THINK about trying to own a firearm.

can you appeal it tony?

personally, as a resident of MA i think the excise tax setup we have is moronic. of course we have plenty of other "screw people with money" taxes/fees so i guess i don't want it changed.

but if you're gonna have a property tax based on some value, geez, it should be THE VALUE not some silly percentage of original MSRP. they could lower the tax from $25/1000 to like $10/1000 and make more tax revenue and make the setup rational. sheesh.

doody.

Jonathan,

Consider yourself lucky. In Connecticut they make an attempt at actual value (I don't know who they use as a source) to set the property tax value and it is dramatically more tan what I expected.

This is hilarious....the excise tax bill came today for my 308: $5.00. Kinda insulting isn't it?
