That's so true, guys. They DON'T know if you are a real, actual customer or not, and, they had BETTER be nice to you. They never know who is a real customer, when they first come in,and who isn't. And not judge you by your looks. When I was 25,and buying my first 'Vette. I worked a construction job (was great money, back in those days!). Flannel shirt, jeans, long hair with a bandana. I had one of my buds drive me over to look at a car. He looked like Mr.GQ-sport coat, dressed nice, was driving an almost new Toronado,(this was in '85) When we got to the place,a salesman approached my buddy and asked,"can I help you sir?" And my friend said, "No,he's looking at that red 'vette".(pointing to me.) The salesman said,in a,somewhat disappointed voice,"Oh". So,I checked out the car. drove it. (I knew pretty much about cars) And,I told the salesman,"I'll take it!". he told me to follow him to his office. We sat down. And he asked me,still in a somewhat disappointed voice,"So,how are you going to pay for this car? Financing?" I said,"No,CASH!",as I pulled out a wad of hundreds from my pocket. You should have seen the look on his face, then! NOW,all of a sudden,he was really nice to me...I was a REAL customer now. And...because I had cash, was able to negotiate a very good price,as he now KNEW that I was a serious buyer, with CASH in hand! So,there ya go! Just think of all the rock stars, rappers and football players that walk into an exotic car dealer and get a disapproving look, due to length of hair, dress, skin color or size! And,lose a potential deal because they act "stuck up". There are some real dumbasses out there working in these dealerships, that should know better.(I am sure that there are very few, though)

When I went to go see Tim we drove behind the Harley dealer and saw Exotics of Scottsdale, looked nice but we didn't stop. Motorsports new showroom looks awesome, with the windows all around... Then we arrived at Scottsdale Lotus, after passing Motorsports current location...Tim at Scottsdale Lotus was REALLY nice. As for the Ferrari Dealer, it's the 1st Ferrari dealer I've ever been to, I went in the summer of 02,(the old closet) and no one said a word to us, then my 2nd time was the new location when Terry invited me to go see the Enzos... The people were really nice, and it looked like they showed respect to everyone! Also, Terry is right with his tire kicker statement, dealers need to open up their eyes!

I understand that a lot of dealers feel that way, but I have visited the Authorized Ferrari dealer in 8 different cities and only one was ever rude to me. Independent shops are just the opposite, Scottsdale Lotus is the only one that has ever been really nice to me. The owners of Motorsports know me as I am the communication director and I create, manage and publish the club newsletter, but when I see them inside the dealership or outside of the dealership they are very rude to me. I WILL have the MONEY in the future and I WILL buy a Ferrari from someone and I can assure you my money will not be spent with a dealer that was rude to me while gawking. Today's tire kicker is tomorrow's customer, some dealers get this others don't.

Terry,

If you want a dealer to be friendly you gotta show them the money. That's all they respect.

When I go to look at cars I never talk to the salesman. I figure they talk to enough tire kickers in a day to be bothered with me.

The guys at Motorsports were friendly to me...maybe because I'm an old fart(43), and they can tell that I was seriously looking. But,back to the girls and food... There are alot of good restaraunts in Scottsdale/Phoenix. When we were there in July, saw Britney Spears at The Quilted Bear,on Scottsdale Rd. and Lincoln, for breakfast. She had a concert in Scottsdale that week, and was spotted all over town, shopping and stuff (Fashion Square Mall). And,last year,I was looking at cars at Scottsdale Ferrari-their old location, 1 door west. And,we saw Christina Aguilera and a couple other girls, and a couple security guys, looking at Jaguars at Scotts.Jag. I live in Chi-town,and we have some great fast food here-Chicago style dogs,PIZZA,White Castle (Good?),Italian Beef sandwiches,etc... But,there are some really Fine restaraunts out there.AND,like I said in the earlier post. Some of the most beautiful women that I've ever seen, all in that little area.(little compared to Chicago.)

Motorsports of Scottsdale, has never been very friendly to me. Although I am not a customer either, just a gawker. They do have the most impressive showroom for exotic cars in the valley with their new location. They are the new authorized Lamborghini dealer as well. They do have some great cars in stock. Another place that always has some interesting cars is Exotics of Scottsdale they are tucked behind Hacienda Harley on Northsight right off of Hayden in N. Scottsdale.

And check out Club 6 (think it's in Oldtown?)...when we went in, there were only 4 other people. In 20 minutes, there was over 100 beautiful people...most of them drunk girls in tight clothing.

I have heard that motorsports of scottsdale aren't the friendliest people... I recently read that they are now a Lambo authorized dealer.

You guys got to check out Scottsdale Lotus, and Motorsports of Scottsdale,up on the north side of town,on Raintree by the Scottsdale airport. Lots of nice exotics at those places, too. (And they gotta be close to Sapporo.) I live in Chicago area, but go to Phoenix/Scottsdale alot. Currently looking at picking up a condo or something, real estate is VERY reasonable out there,so I can go out there more often. Pretty much all of my family are out there- three brothers,Granny,Mom,uncles, cousins. And,when my own kids get a little older, and don't care that Dad lives 2000 miles away,(or come with) I'll be out there, too. Great weather-swimming outside at Christmas ,LOTS of beautiful, nice,SMOOTH(not all potholed up like here)roads, mountains, palm trees, cactus. And, every time I go out there cannot BELIEVE all the GREAT LOOKING WOMEN out there! Incredible! AND...you can drive your Ferrari year 'round! A couple other good spots to eat, close to Scottsdale Ferrari. In "old town" Scottsdale, you got "Pischkes Paradise"(you HAVE to get one(or two)of their,"Pischkes Passion" drinks-several kinds of Rum and passion fruit juice) and "Bandera". Check 'em out.

Jim, if you make it to Sapporo, make sure you walk around and check out the whole restaurant. They have a ton of fish tanks, including a jellyfish tank that's kind of hidden in the back.

Oh yeah, and the bathrooms aren't labled all that well...learned the hard way...

Scottsdale Ferrari is very supportive of the local club. They sponsor a lot of our activities as well as offer discounts to club members. They are able to find some really quality cars, and Jim Summers and Gary Simon are very knowlegable.

We are lucky to have two great competing dealers in the valley, Scottsdale Ferrari and Scottsdale Lotus both offer a uniquely different browsing experience, but the management of both dealers are very friendly and accomodating.

Check out www.ferrariaz.com for FCA activities when anyone visits the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, during the fall and winter months we are very busy. If you have plans on being in the valley, or you live here, be sure to come by our Concorso (October 25th) as it will surely be our largest and most extravagant event of the year.

Patrick - glad to email you when I get to Az. Hope you don't mind, but as a dad myself, I'd like to get some parental consent before we break the sound barrier.

DES - It's dark and dirty work, but hey, somebody's got to do it! Each car is unique and has its own personality. They're all a blast to drive and each has their own story to tell. I must say though that the vintage vehicles are particularly fun to drive as you really get a real rush and a grin on your face, without having to go fast.

I deal with Jim Summers who is the Ferrari service manager there with United Auto Group and he is simply fantastic.

I have a number of clients whom I regularily ship their Ferraris and Porsches to Scottsdale for in the winter and bring them back in the spring and I get the cars dropped there....serviced and detailed. 110% cooperation and professionalism is the best way to describe my experience with this company.

Patrick, you can easily go to Sapporo and enjoy the eye candy there. I bring my 16 year old son there every time we're at our house in Scottsdale. It's a killer place. Sorry you can't yet enjoy the Mango Margarita. I'll be in town again the 18th to the 22nd. I don't have an F-car in Az, but you're more than welcome to go for a ride in the '94 3.6 Turbo S Flatnose (one of only 39).

Doody - it's not too late to make the move, or alternatively keep a second home there! You can't beat the weather or the people.

if you're a fan of AZ, make sure you get to Tucson at some point. it's a rather different landscape then Phoenix. lots of retirees, which is a bummer sometimes, but it's got a lot going for it.

we briefly considered moving to AZ at one point when we were thinking of leaving MA (pre-monsters).

doody.

It is a bit pricey, but not horrible. I bet you could get in, I don't think most of the staff is even legal age. There was a bar area, but the rest of the place is big and open and just a restaurant.

I've been trying to find the restaurant name, when I do I'll post it. Some of the best appetizers I have ever had. The hostess was actually blond, not a japanese girl. Very few asian girls there. But the waitresses/hostesses were all drop dead. Even the women I was with were checking them out!

Next time I'm down there, I'll definately give you a shout. Maybe we can meet up for some sushi.

If you do go back, check out the Hyatt resort at Gainey Ranch. I stayed there in July, and what a great property. Totally changed my opinion of Arizona. Also, there's a killer Japanese place down the road (the 18 yr old hostess was very obviously not wearing any underwear...)

I was in Scottsdale, AZ last weekend and decided to stop by FOS. I have to say, they have been the friendliest of any dealer I have thus far visited. Awesome showroom as well. I stayed at the Scottsdale Hilton...what a beautiful resort! I had never been to AZ before and prior to this I had thought it would be just a dry and desolate wasteland. I was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the people and the beauty of the area. I would go back in a heartbeat!!
