I like Subaru for the rally aspects, so I went with the "team colors" - WR Blue. Really stands out on my street of black, white, grey and murky colored cars! I'm also looking into getting a full Team USA rally decal kit (with the big S and Stars on the side, all the sponsor decals) and going all-out rally look (eventually with the gold BBS's and the big WRC spoiler)... I think it would be a riot, but I don't want to be just another 'ricer.' |

Hi Brian, I saw you had a WRX too. Yeah, I have the 5spd. I know it's the best performance/value/warrantied I could get right now, that would also be good in winter. I'm considering getting the Cobb Stage 1 ECU reflash if it won't void my warranty... that'll get a stock rex to 255hp (up to 280 on a stage 2 and their turbo-back exhaust!), and for only $400. I'm looking in to it. Growing up fantasizing about the 80's Ferraris, I'm also big on the 328 and the TR... but am also smitten with both the 360 and the 550/575. Driving in Cambridge yesterday a red 550 passed us - I did my usual "Hey! Hey! Look! There!" freak out routine... my wife said she likes the Maranellos the best and that I shouldn't get a 328 or TR but save a little more and get a 550 :-)! Yes ma'am! What are you looking at doing post-grad? |

How do you like your wrx. Its a 5-speed i hope right?? They are great cars. I have driven both a Ferrari 328 and my WRX...and while the 328 is a great car...the wrx is faster off the line...and probally in a 50 to 100...only cuz you can get down into 2nd at 50 mph. Still...I have been bitten by the ferrari bug as well. I am absolutely obsessed with the looks of a 328...and would do anything for a 575. Be happy with the WRX, its a great bang for the buck...and in my opinion as close to the power felt in a ferrari as your gonna get for that price range. |

when I was 17 I bought a mercedes. Right after that I though, "why did I buy this, I could have had an exotic." I couldnt wait to sell it and buy a mondial. I'm almost ready to add a 308 to my little collection. It takes a lot of will power to not go the movies or out to eat and save money. I think the end result is worth it though. Good luck at school and on finding your F-. |

I got the Ferrari bug when I was a teenager, maybe 16. I bought my 328 for my 40th birthday. In many ways I'm glad I waited, such as maintenance costs. I could've afforded the car much earlier in my life, but no way I could've paid to keep it running. Now, it's not that big of a deal. I think the more years that pass, the sweeter it is when you finally get one. |

Ryan, You could be my brother. Thats exactly how I feel. I have been working hard everyday at my Lawn & Landscape company. Trying to make enough to afford an exotic. The wait is unbearable. All I do is read books, watch videos, and browse thru countless forums trying to live thru other people. Its kind of sad actually. Someday, I swear it. Someday. I will have one. |

Thanks William. I wish I could afford the extra $$ for the STi - I could stretch it but it would cut out other things I waste $ on, like food/movies/etc. As it is, I think the WRX is probably enough for my skill level - I'd like to take it to some track training and really push it (can't do that in urban Boston, just 0-35 really fast :-). That said, when all the bugs are worked out and my warranty is approaching expiry, I'm planning on modding it up a bit - want about 300hp (crank) and some Brembo's. Next thread: "How I inadvertently became a Ricer." I realize we all put in our dues, I just get impatient :-). Heck, many have much longer "dues!" I'll still be a 'youngin' when I bring my first Cavallino home to my garage. It's just a bummer when I'm spending comparable amounts of money on a 'satisfactory' goal but not a primary one (F-car ownership). That and they do not let you save/invest ANY money in law school - they take everything beyond budget costs, esp. if you're getting financial aid (understandably, to keep people equal)... but they let you expense the costs of one automobile. Which is why I shot for something a little higher than a clunker Toyota. Fear of repairs aside, I think the biggest damper on me getting one now is winter - my apt doesn't have underground parking, or covered for that matter. While I would really consider only a 'daily driver' type car (as opposed to a show car), as an enthusiast I wouldn't want to be responsible for the car rusting out. I'm currently plotting to try and start a business, but that's still in concept planning... although it's hard because I make an absurd rate tutoring LSAT (my night job), so it makes struggling to start a business more risky and less appealing in the short term. But we'll see. Maybe if something takes off I'll move to a newer apt and drive whatever I want! There's the dreaming again :-). |

Ryan, Congrats on the WRX. I got a chance to drive one & I love it. If you get a chance drive an STI. AMAZING car for the buck. (will eat most Ferraris on the track) Be happy for what you have now, your time will come when you have your Ferrari. It's a long road, but well worth the travel.

I've learned so much from this chat board, but unfortunately it intensifies my desire to own an F-car to extreme proportions. I look at my new car and think "you could have been a Mondial or a 308." Seriously, I'm paying the same for my WRX; it pains me to think I could be driving a Ferrari. Sometimes I feel borderline obsessive-compulsive I think about cars so much... I think it may be an effect of long-term boredom. That and making real money now (I'm working during law school). I'm working hard, and trying to figure out a balance of how much money I should be able to spend on myself because I'm busting my arse. So I've been looking around. But when I sat in a Mondial recently (F-New England), I didn't feel it 'click' initially; this hasn't stopped my daydreaming of having one, or perhaps a 308. Ogling the Testarossas and 355's, I realized that I could just wait 3 more years and get something bigger and badder. They will be long years, indeed. Arrgh. The wait is killing me! Am I alone in this despair? |
