I'm also using Kazaa, but a lite version.
It's completly the same, but without the adds.

You can download it from here :
http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm
then scroll down to Kazaa Lite K++ 2.4.2
English and download.

It's working for me for over a year now, without any problems

What about sites like RacingFlix where you can download videos? Most of the clips are amateur video of drag races but they also offer quite a few segments of Top Gear taken off BBC.

I did not mean to imply that an EMPLOYEE is safe from detection. I can gurantee that if a company gets nailed for illegal files on its system, they will go after the employees to find out who is doing it. You can NEVER completely erase a digital signature of a file. Even deleted files can be found.

Case in point about how they can tell where the files came from....

There is a woman in NY who is the first individual to fight the RIAA subpeona against her. She claims that all the music on her computer was uploaded from legally purchased CDs and that she merely used the KaZaA software as a media player and did not knwo her "legal" files were being shared. Well, the RIAA can smell BS better than most. They have the digital signature history of files that were transfered INTO her computer - they have signatures going all the way back to Napster. She was an idiot to open her mouth because she dug a deeper hole for herself and the RIAA will most definitely sue her.

The company would figure that out pretty quick who was downloading all the music or software. So don't think you are safe if they want you.

"The corporate firewalls only prevent the RIAA from knowing the precise computer within the corporation that the files went to." Wheh, that's what I needed to hear. Thanks, Ken.

I can honestly say I stopped my downloading a while ago and even deleted the files. Wasn't worth the hassle or probelms.

Jake...yes you can legally use KaZaA to download free-doamin info (i.e. non copyrighted material). However, if you have cpyrighted files on your system and the sharing feature is activiated, KaZaA will share the copyrighted material with other users and that is a violation of copyright law.

Matthew, KaZaA and its predecessors have been under the gun for a long time, so this is not a new issue. Napster, MP3.com, AudioGalaxy, Aimster, etc... They have all been hammered by the RIAA and MPAA. KaZaA and the newer generation of P2P systems are technologically more advanced that the predecessor systems and this allows them to raise a colorable defense to infringment liability (i.e. KaZaA and others have substantially no-infringing uses and the principals of KaZaA do not directly control infringing content.) Napster had significant control over the infringing content since they had a central server within their control that contained illegal files.

John Do'h......hate to tell ya pal. Corporate firewalls do NOT work against the methods that the RIAA is using to track illegal file transfers. I refer you to the Arizona company that got sued for a cool $1 million by the RIAA and lost because their employees were downloading illegally.

Bill Hart is right. Don't make any admissions on this board since you never know who is watching - one of us may work for the RIAA or a law firm that represents the RIAA.

Go ahead and download like crazy at work and then call me when the RIAA slaps you with with a lawsuit.

The corporate firewalls only prevent the RIAA from knowing the precise computer within the corporation that the files went to. The RIAA is still able to track all the files that transfer to and from KaZaA (or any other p2p service) from the corporate system.

Isn't a person allowed to download non-copyrighted material from another computer's shared files/folders? If allowable>>> then connecting to Kazza is OK, correct??

I don't use Kazaa for a few reasons. The main reason is that there are a lot of viruses floating around on kazaa and if you don't have an anti-virus software then you are pretty much screwed. It sounds like that is what happened to Rob Lay.

What I find funny is that Napster got shut down quite a while after it was introduced. Then Kazaa came around, and it has taken a really long time for anybody to seriously start doing something about it. So when the next big program comes out to share files how long will it take for it to get shut down? It just seems like an endless process.

Oddly, one of the advantages of downloading at work is all of the firewalls and protection available. Hell, my boss downloaded a couple episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I don't know...Mr Hart,

You've got to love a guy that only jumps on the free download wagon when the industry starts arresting people. That guy gets my vote!

You've got some balls, to say "hey, I saw these guys getting sued....and it gave me an idaea.. I didn't know you could still download free music after Napster. Guys help me get signed up."

Very funny

Maybe you should just relabel this thread: "Let me incriminate myself for the benefit of the RIAA." This is akin to discussing how drunk you were when your speeding car slammed into somebody. Are you guys from California?

I did and it has caused me major problems. I got all these bots on my computer and some of my drivers got messed up. I still can't use dial-up or I get a BSD. Luckily I use DSL or wireless.
