When I was younger a cop pulled my mom over twice on occasion on our way to school. One time when we were "backing up unsafely without our blinker on"...My mom was pissed off that morning and somehow got us out of that one without getting shot....The other time for going 5mph too fast downhill. A cop was sitting behind this brick wall at the bottom of a hill just pulling over pairs of cars at a time.

Our favorite though, is when 3 cops pulled over about 10 cars RIGHT when entering an exit ramp from the freeway. The sign said speed limit was 25mph and we were slowing down like everyone normally would (at about 55 when we got pulled over). The cop gave us a ticket and my mom showed up in court to fight it. She argued that if she was indeed at 25mph when the sign stated the off-ramp speed limit, it would have been a danger to other motorists on the freeway and caused dramatic delays and accidents. We won!

I agree with all of these but the worst IMHO are the cops who seem to ignore all of this and like to sit on their butts aming a radar gun to catch someone doing 11 over or staying at the donut shop during rush hours when most of this crap happens.

Two lanes in each direction, both lanes in my direction occupied by cars driving side by side right at the speed limit. I know it's legal, but I like to go faster especially when in the 355, 540 or simply in a hurry. Why the F*ck won't the guy in the left lane pass (as the lane is intended for) and let me by?? This always elicits some gesturing and cursing from yours truly.

Had this happen to me today...

I was travelling on the freeway in the 2nd lane from the right and had a guy on my left and another on my right. They both speed up, cut me off...comming very close to hitting my van (without signalling I might add)...and then they almost hit each other when cutting into my lane. They seriously came within a foot! Then I had some guy whip around me in the shoulder when I was in the far right lane. I slowed down to let the bastard in and he slammed on his breaks then got behind me and tailgated me for a good 3 miles. Ass...

No, it was definitely intentional. The guy head-checked a couple of times to make sure the car's there then swerve into the lane as the car approaches. I'm not talking about slight drifting into the car lane. It's putting the bike smack dead center of the car lane.

Seattle has a reputation for overly aggressive bicyclists. They are VERY anti-cars.

The tapping of the brakes constantly because they don't know how to lift is common around here.

Regarding bicycles, I don't know the actual law here in California, but you share the road with the cars, you don't travel abrest and prevent travel in the lane, correct? Thats what would happen out here if they weren't single file. The lanes and traffic just don't allow that. You swerve wide left with a blinker or change lanes. No harm no foul.

And remember, your body moves in the direction of your head. Rubbernecking and drifting go hand in hand, some people can't help it.

Cyclists riding 2 abreast infuriate me too. WTF are they thinking? It's not just thoughtless, it's dangerous.

I *commute* by bicycle 2-3 days a week and I STAY THE HELL OVER so noone flattens me.

How about when you are on the highway (left lane of course), and the ignoramous in front of you has no clue how to use his breaks? You know, the dude that is constantly applying his breaks even though he is 18 car lengths away from anyone and anything.

And don't get me started with the jacka$$e$ that drive with completely inoperative break lights... At night!

This one I was so shocked at I did not how to react.

I had just moved to Dallas and was on Main Street in Lewisville driving the speed limit on a Saturday morning. There were not a lot of cars going my direction but for some damn reason an older lady sees traffic going the opposite direction and decides to start driving onto my lane! If that was not bad enough she is book'n it about 65-70 in a 35-40mph zone and she is all over the place. I am trying to decide what to do since she keeps changing lanes-I start honking and relaying some sign language and she finally moved to the other side of the street but still in the opposite direction! She could have easily killed someone!

WOW! What a response. Guess it's the same everywhere I travel. Hate being in the F-car,(low) behind minivans and BIG-ASS SUV's where you cannot see beyond them, and they're usually chatting away on a cell phone, then,STOP real fast and you cannot see past them, and don't see it coming, and have to STOP real fast to avoid a rear ender. And,visa- versa, when you got one of those HUGE,School bus size SUV's,you know, with the guard rail welded to the front end, ridin' your ass THISCLOSE. Feel like tossing a hand grenade out the open targa top, back at 'em! :-)

"semi's in the left lane they have no business being there" Amen Brother!
How about any car in the carpool lane going 60mph that you suddenly come up behind. I have to drop 25mph and sit behind this woman who is driving in the carpool lane because...
a.)she has two people or more in the car so she thinks she has to be over there.
b.)They're not getting off anytime soon, so they think they have to be as far over to the left as possible.

"How about the gutless jerk who waits for the light to turn green before making a right?"

Worse is the dweeb who waits for the light to turn red before making a right.

New England traffic has to be seen to be believed.

This is what I've encountered recently. When the stoplight turns green, the first car in the lane ROLLS to get going. No acceleration, just a slow roll. What's the deal with that?

Last second mergers irks me too.

Semis in the left lane. They have no business being there.

Bicyclists who intentionally encroach into the car lane just to make the approaching cars swerve wider. You could tell they do it on purpose because they turn their heads to check.

Tillman -

There are good drivers and there are good cyclists. Yes, cyclists should be following the rules of the road, as should drivers.

How about backing up ON the highway when they missed the exit.

Once I saw sombody back up in the LEFT lane of the exit for JFK. I was behind a bus taking this exit in the middle lane. The car that backed up was invisible to me until the last moment. I could have easily decided to pass that bus at that moment and...........

The thing that pisses me off the most is when bicycle riders block the road. If they can't stay up with traffic, they need to stay of the way. The worst part is how hypocritical they act: "We are just like other vehicles", but they won't stop at stop signs or obey other road signs.

My complaints are from when I am on my bike.

Just this weekend, I was out with a small group (6 cyclists) on a rural road. We were riding two abreast on the far right side of this 2 lane road. A guy in a pickup truck, with his ATV loaded in the back, gets right next to us, slows to our pace, and starts yelling obscenities. Why he didn't just give us the proper space and pass us like 99% of other driver's boggles my mind. We are well aware of the cars on the road, we don't need to be reminded like this. We are also biking according to the law. For drivers to get aggressive in a 4000 lb vehicle, while we are on a 20 lb bike, is not very sporting. I have been lucky, and haven't been hit by a car yet. I know many people who have. Most have been accidents, some were intentional.

I am sure that some of you out there that also hate cyclists on "your" road. Please, just take the extra 10 seconds, and pass us safely, without laying on the horn.

Thanks - John

Getting off the topic for a moment....

Thomas: WTF? This was completey random? I hope those punks got some jail time (read: a lot of jail time) after that little charade.

On a personal note, similar thing happened to my grandpa, although it wasn't exactly random. He was an enemy of the state in Cuba after Castro took over (They didn't exactly get along in Law School together, and he was anti-communismn) and was shot at in his car by police/army/whatever. Bullet missed his head by a matter of like an inch, and lodged itself in his headreast. He had to plug the bullet holes in the car with playdo or puddy or something so that the police couldn't blatantly spot the car.

Back on topic, I forgot this move that really annoys me:

-When people make a right on red into your lane when you have a protected left turn.

Please, after you and your amigos have drank yourself into oblivion, choose me at random, put your lights on high, try to run me off the road, then once I've recovered, slam on your brakes.

After I get a move on, please, by all means shoot at me, but let me roll my windows down first, so I don't have to replace the glass. (I was shot at @3 1/2 years ago on 10 Fwy. WB @ Fairfax) Beaners (of course) missed my head by 1 1/2 inches. Bullet found wedged in conv. top clasp. Gotta scan that bullet...

Large trucks dont get to me so much...its a hassle, but its not like they can go much faster usually :-)

The LA freeways are the worst in the world...showing the most dramatic displays of idiocy in the world while also being the most congested during peak times. Try merging into traffic at rush hour. NOBODY LETS YOU IN!

The thing that gets me is in heavy traffic, the person that does a remarkable 4 lane change in one move without his blinker on...I narrowly escaped getting smacked by some moron doing that today. He was comming for my lane (3rd from the right) at a 45 degree angle adn very fast. I was moving along with the rest of the traffic in my lane (at 20mph) and he slams on his breaks and honks his horn. Ass.

I also hate the people that dont merge until the VERY last second. I am always polite and let as many people in as I can without holding up traffic, but there are always people that use the shoulder as a lane for a good hundred feet after they should have merged and then cut right in.

I hate a lot more things as well, but in brief, I hate any drivers that aren't here on this website, or myself :-)

- Large trucks, especially when getting on the freeway. Once, i got stuck behind one that decided that getting on the freeway at 30 mph was a good idea. I had to move over a few lanes relatively quickly to avoid getting off at an interchange or having my lane end, so I had to floor it as I got in the other lane (And I drive a 4Runner, so we're looking at a decent amount of time to get up to speed), and almost got rear ended. As I'm passing the truck, I look over, and the guy is EATING A SANDWICH while driving. Anger++

-People who blaze to the end of a merging lane, and get in at the last minute. Even worse when they use the shoulder to gain extra ground on everyone else.

-People who don't watch out for where they need to go, and make dangerous lane changes. The Whilshire 405 entrance seems to especially have a problem with this.

-People making an unprotected left hand turn without puting on their blinkers

-Trucks/SUVs that use the sidewalk to try and get around people so they can turn right on the red.

OH, I can go off one this one!!
-People who think the left lane is where you drive if you're not getting off the freeway anytime soon.
-Cars turning right on a red, in heavy traffic, into my lane of travel. I have a green but the intersection is now blocked.
-Last minute pass then slam on brakes even though I'm going 10+ over. Just so you don't have to merge in behind me-A$$hole!
-No signal from oncoming car when we're both making unprotected lefts.
-Trucks that don't cover their gravel load and shower me with glass-breaking, paint-chipping debris.
-Trucks/cars that put two wheels off onto shoulder and shower me with sh*t.
I'll think of more when I get back from my next drive.

People that are afraid to enter the freeway.
The worst drivers in my opinion. Ever seen
a fool stop while trying to get on the freeway ?
This leaves everyone behind them in the same boat.
Now all the drivers in the entrance lane from
hot rods to soccer moms driving in mini vans
have to do a burnout to get on the freeway.
It will also screw all the people on the freeway
who are in the right hand lane. Did you see all the brake lights ?
Now you wish you were on the Hayabusa!

Hey try getting on the freeway at 80 mph ?
You will have no problem merging with traffic.
Fortunately this does not occur often.

Of course you can purchase a Porsche Turbo;
if you still have a problem entering.

Step vans in Germany who cut you off by pulling out in front of you in the left lane because its the Autobahn and they want to go fast too. All the time, they do it. Everyone else, no problem.

I call it the Quest van phenomenon, I've seen less then 5 that have road manners around Los Angeles.

John's post also. Had that happen to me and not 3 minutes later I was in front of them going 10-15mph at 60mph just by staying in the lane and waiting to merge. I like to call it speeding smartly, something many American drivers (especially in So Cal) don't know how to do.

Just a few minutes ago - on Wilshire Blvd., 5 lanes wide, in the middle lane...everyone starts braking up ahead...some horns go off...some moron realizes he needs to be in the far right lane for the freeway entrance...blocks our lane and causing near accidents trying to cut into moving traffic in the next two lanes with no room to move forward to make the exit...shut everyone down for about a minute and a half while nearly causing two accidents. Made it on the freeway and probably saved a scant few seconds more than it would have taken to turn around at the next light.

I REALLY just don't get some people!

What makes me fume is trying to merge onto the freeway, and the guy behind you decides that he will cut into traffic first and block you so you can't get in. Hmmmm, 60MPH and nowhere to go but the shoulder. Nice.

Most of my complaints involve van drivers. They drive like they are in an airplane (the whole world is out the windshield). They change lanes into you. Go too slow in front of you. It's like no one around them exists.

Other than that I have only.....say.....~129,454 incidents I can refer to. I know I shouldn't say this but I have NEVER been in an accident, and I am a very fast (but extremely defensive) driver.

Wanted to start a thread about stupid moves that you see other drivers do that REALLY piss you off. I'm going to compile it and send a copy to every DMV in the country! (maybe) One of mine is when you are cruising along, nice road, nice speed,no one in front of you,no one behind you. Then, all of a sudden, you see some moron up ahead at a crossroad,or driveway. they pull out really fast, just so they can be out in front of you,(big hurry, right?) and, once they pull out in front of you,go really slow. That makes me want to install a heat seeking missile,or .50 caliber machine gun on my targa bar,and BLAST THE SH*T OUT OF THAT *SSHOLE! :-)
