Jon,
I guess I should have prefaced my comment with by saying that to win, porsche needs to return to racing (i.e., factory backed), but that promise gets pushed back every year; now it's indefinatly defined... ahh , business.

About the viability of the GT 2. Yah, I remember the GT2's, and remember them being the holy grail of the super cup series, but will admit that I'm not sure as to how sterling their record was in FIA ACO endurance racing. One thing I will say , is that a 996 TT won, overall, the 24hrs of neurburgring this past year, and that's impressivly speaks for the chassis and engine, as well as the privateer effort.

As far as customer demand, I suppose we could infer by how easily money and keys trade as it pertains to the cup cars/super cup cars/etc., and they seem to have a winning formula. Who knows, maybe privateers will venture into GTS?? I'd love to get a stint in either at GT3 or GT 2.

Point being... if we can infer from the dominance of the GT 3's in GT, then the GT 2's should prove just as viable... damn, it's good to have someone else to soudn off with.

Regards,
Hubert

Hubert,

Much of it will depend on customer demand and how well Porsche develops the car.

If you look back to the mid-90's Porsche produced several 993 Turbo GT2 race cars but with little success. There wasn't much demand with the GT3R's on the way and the GT2's were not developed well and spanked by the Vipers.

I think Porsche will gauge the demand and if it's not there we will never see the car. I also think from a marketing standpoint Porsche is playing it safe in recent years and staying in a class they know they can win.

GTS class has the dominant CR5's and the 550's and I don't think Porsche wants to be seen as a backmarker to Ferrari and Corvette both of which could take sales away from their street cars based on their race successes.

I still wish they would get back into Protype racing at LeMans but they seem more interested in building the worlds fastest Sport Ute.

Quite a shame from a company that used to race and win in every class.

Regards,

Jon

The 360's are really going to need to get their act together next season in ALMS and Grand Am.

This car is rumored to be 2 1/2 seconds quicker around Hockenheim than the older R and RS versions.

Rumor also has it that Porsche may be working on a GT2 Turbo car to run in GTS class.

The paddle system that Ferrari used in some of their early Michelotto cars was a piece of crap.

Ralph Kellners could have challenged Buckler for the over all win at Daytona this past year if he hadn't lost 12 laps because of the transmission locking up and stalling freqently. he had to be towed in twice.

>>I would have thought that would come with paddle shifting? Porsche behind the times?<<

No, just not buying into the trend. Why don't you read the 360 NGT's DNF record. Tranny comes up more than once.

I'm not sure if this has been posted before or not, but it's the first I've seen it (the website that is). Looks like a pretty hardcore contender, but the graphics leave a bit to be desired. Gotta love the carbon fibre engine cover(s) too :-)
