Stu, It seems that this car is getting a lot of undeserved flack on this thread. Remember, you are the one that is going to drive it. The Targa did have its own special wheel that is unique to the model, and I think it looks quite nice. Also, the 1998 model is especially desirable because Porsche eliminated a problem that owners were having with the '96 and '97 models. Apparently these earlier 993 Targas had a problem with the sliding glass roofs jamming if they were operated while on an incline. The '98 models have an updated track that sorted this out. Remember that '98 was the last year of the air-cooled 911 and is very special indeed. That being said, I do agree with everyone on one note though. $58k is too much for that car. I think that you should try for the upper $40k range. Good luck! |

targas are rare, but that's also b/c no one likes them. same thing w/ the 996 targa - can't give those things away. personally, i love the targa! but that price is WAY high, not even in the ballpark. |

Though market prices aren't updated constantly... http://www.qv500.com/porsche993mr.htm 993 3.8 Carrera Targa (285bhp) 1995 - '98 Low ------High 18,000 > 36,000 = $30,000 > $60,000 Based on 1.6667 $ per at Oct. 1 rate (though 1.57387 USD per /22 days average in April was lowest month & 1.66088 USD per /21 days average was highest month thus far in '03) Whole slew of Porsche info, sans production figures on many models & 928 and 964 are conspicuous by their absence. http://www.qv500.com/indexporsche.htm |

Good feedback! It does seem that the demand for the Targa is less, but then the number made is significantly less as well, so if you want one, there are fewer to choose from. This seems to result it the prices varying more on the Targa than on the coupe or cab. There are tons of cab's out there, so they tend to sell for less, even though they were more expensive new! Unfortunately up here in the Northwest, with a cab as a daily driver the top is rarely down, however the targa model provides lots of light on those (too often) gray days, as well as an open-air feeling when the sun does shine. At least that's my reason for liking the targa model. I too agree that $58 is too high, but I'm thinking that low to mid 50's is reasonable, given the market and the super low miles. Thanks for the thoughts...... |

They are super rare, because no one wanted them to begin with. Id be hard pressed to pay 35,000 for that car. Get a coupe or convertible. |

that suprises me that the targa would be the least deireable- i have seen countless 993's but only one targa- they are super super rare- i think they are damn cool they also have what looks like they have the an upgraded wheel as standard does anyone have production numbers?

Stu, Yeah, I think that price is at least $15K too high. Heck, I'll sell you my loaded still-under-warranty one-owner 00 996 coupe for less than that! (PM me if you're interested )

Way too much. The targa is the least desirable 993 made. My buddy just sold a pristine 25,000 mile 97 Cab for 39,000. |

Stu, I owned a 993 a few years ago. I don't keep up with the market anymore but that sounds way too high for a 4 year old car. I think the Targa went for low 70's new so I would think it should be closer to mid-to-low 50's. Check at www.rennlist.com and ask them. It could be that the rare targa model comands a premium but as I recall that option wansn't a big hit. Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 F355 Challenge #23 www.flatoutracing.net

I mentioned before that I'm looking for a 993 as a daily driver and I think I've found one. Curious as to what you all think fair market value is; 98 993 Targa, Silver/Black, 6spd, 2 owner, full leather, CD, CF trim, litronics, 17" wheels and a few more goodies all with only 10k miles! Supposed to be immaculate. What do you think? He's asking $58K |
