Just ordered one of those Philly Cheese Steak Pizzas from Dominos. We'll see how good they are. Yummy.

NYC definitely has good pizza. There was a place in Boston that had really good Neapolitan style pizza. It was called Upper Crust I think. Its in Brookline in Coolidge Corner or thereabouts.

Cheers

Jean-Louis, thanks, i didn't know pizza originated in Italy, i just thought that was some tale... i could eat it a few times a week, too, but even the pizza on the Island isn't as good as the pizza in the boroughs (The Bronx & Brooklyn, that is...:-))

Now once we're done with this thread, let's start another on bread; you know, round rolls, club rolls heroes and so forth... We'll really start bashing the west coast... :-)

Next month we'll do french fries... :-)

There's no argument. I offered some West Coast alternatives for those unable to fly to NJ or NY and hie said selves to real pizzerias. DL found a hideaway in a hideaway which the experts can investigate further. Need Grant Money. But NY still wins, hands down.

Are you fricking kidding me? This is actually an arguement? East Coast Pizza rules over West Coast. I am a pizza critic and I can tell you that pizza from NY, NJ, and PA beat out all other states in the west alone.
I also work at a pizzeria and it also varies in taste according to who is making the pizza. While the ingredients may be the same, the spread and amounts impact the taste hugely.

Best Pizza is DiFara's on Ave J in Brooklyn. Thin crust, the best sauce. Believe me, you'll eat a whole pie if no one is looking!

Actually, The very best pizza I ever had was in Tambor, Costa Rica. There is a transplanted New Yorker and his Swiss wife who run the marlin charter as well as a little Italian restaurant. One little wood table and a couple of chairs on the beach. Pizza to absolutely die for and ice cold beer..followed by homemade New York cheesecake.

THEE best!

BJ's in Burbank is excellent, excellent, excellent and Palermo's in Los Feliz has a mind-bendingly good Pizza Rosa (like Pizza Margherita, only better).

If you're ever in the boonies of Central California, check out Poor Richard's in Porterville. 8-10 years ago, I tended the beer/soda bar (Fringe Benefits: Free Beer, Pizza, Tips which paid for 72 holes of Golf a week, and Dates, heehee) there on weekends for a few years and was a taste tester for new recipes.

One of those was the Tex-Mex Pizza which went on to win Pizza Inc. Magazine's Best Pizza of the Year for the Southwest Category. Regardless of topping, the crust and sauce are deeeeeeelicious.

I get out to NYC quite often and by far my favorite pizza is from Famiglia in midtown Manhatten. BTW the canoli's sold in Little Italy on Mulberry street are awesome.

Aaaayyy forgetaboutit!!! :-)
The guacamole is better in Cali
The pizza is always better in New York
(why you ask)
Dominos/Pizza Hut etc etc is NOT pizza
it is a pathetic synthetic version of try to
be pizza.
Two things in Arizona I miss from Brooklyn
Pizza/Bagels and a few choice resteraunts.

The 1st thing I get when I get off the plane in NY is a bacon/egg and cheese sandwich on a everything or garlic bagel toasted w/ a coffee light and sweet.Thats all of about 3.50 and full allday w/ the size of it unlike the portions of meals in AZ unless you know what your doing and who you dine w/.
Damm I'm hungry NOW!! :-)

I can eat Pizza 3 times a week easilly.

The #1 rated place for pizza is in brooklyn. I forogt who rated it #1 though, and what its called. Westchester pizza is good too at pizzerias. Places like dominos and pizza hut shouldnt even call what they serve pizza.
Up here, around albany, the pizza is terrible, as is the chinese food. I take for granted all the good food i have at home.

Each and every one of you should take a trip to The Bronx and go to Arthur avenue and eat at any pizza place there... Or go to Pizza Corner on Allerton avenue, about a mile or two west of the parkway, not too far from the Allerton Avenue/White Plains Road intersection (train station)... That's some serious pizza... and the slices over there are huge... Not like that silly pizza restaurant chain crap...

There is one pizzaria in LA (Lamonica's) that brings in the water from NYC to make the dough. It is the best around and the owner is a great guy and a big time Tifosi! I met him at Pilota in Mugello. I would go there on Ferrari principle alone, but the pizza is great!

BONUS!

You'll never find pizza like the pizza in The Bronx; plain and simple. First is The Bronx, then Brooklyn; after that, good luck... Nothing else will ever come even remotely close. Hands down, bar none, end of story, period.

Why...?

Because that's where pizza comes from; that's where it gets made the right way. Every where else is crap...

DES, born and raised in The Bronx. :-)

I know this is a ridiculous thread. Can you explain to me why east coast pizza is so superior to west coast pizza. I live in Southern California and although there are tons of pizza
places finding a good one is like finding a virgin in high school.
