Interesting, really fascinating stuff.

Actually, the most fascinating thing is that I didn't make any of those up. There really was a tortilla somewhere in South America that had a likeness to a guy with a beard (it must be Jesus!) and pilgrims flocked to it from all over the world to witness his holiness himself, resurrected in a flattened piece of cornmeal. Same goes for the Virgin Mary in an orange, among other edible items. Religious people are a strange lot...

Telson,

read the snopes link about this story. It sounds amazing, but when dissected, it isn't as fascinating.

"Humans are pattern-oriented beings who are capable of finding similarities in just about anything. Richard Nixon in a pile of mashed potatoes, Jesus Christ in a tortilla, Virgin Mary in a sliced orange, Elvis in a cloud, etc.."

:-)

Interesting, really fascinating stuff.

Not at all. You can pick pretty much any two people and create a whole laundry list of "impossible" coincidences. I read a lot of skeptic stuff (Skeptical Enquirer magazine, books by Michael Shermer, James Randi, etc..) and have seen several people come up with similar lists for other random people.

Humans are pattern-oriented beings who are capable of finding similarities in just about anything. Richard Nixon in a pile of mashed potatoes, Jesus Christ in a tortilla, Virgin Mary in a sliced orange, Elvis in a cloud, etc.. we latch on to the slightest similarity between two unrelated objects and create a connection not because it exists, but because we'd like to think that one exists. This happens for visual as well as intellectual items. There's a long word for this phenomenon that starts with M and I can't remember it right now.. :-)

Oh and Snopes is the greatest thing on the net...

Have a history teacher explain this...if they can:

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird...

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat...

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a
warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in the theater.
Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was in Marilyn Monroe.
