BTW, I've heard the reason that Ralph Firman got the job is because Benson & Hedges were willing to be title sponsors again if Eddie hired a young British-born racer. Even Eddie Irvine alluded to such when he said in interviews during the off-season that he'd be driving for Jordan if he was 10 years younger. Personally I think Ralph Firman has proved his worthiness as he is a winner of F3 championships including the Macau GP, been Mclaren/AutoSport Young Driver of the Year for 1993, Formula Nippon (Japanese F3000) champion for 2002, I'm willing to wait until the last race of the season before caliing him an F1 reject. |

That might be the nice thing to do, but the world of F1 is less forgiving. Especially when the driver didn't bring a ton of $$$, that seat might change in a heartbeat. Eddie has axed bigger names like Frentzen for low performance. Eddie needs $$$ desperately (look at how virgin like his cars look), so if Irvine brings cash and media attention, the deal might happen faster then Firman can switch off the ignition. |

How come you guys are all ready to bash the new boy when the races so far hasn't been what you'd expect to be called normal race conditions? There's the new rules too, making almost everyone struggle. I think we should wait and see until the final race of the season before passing judgment on whether the rookie can hang with the vets or he should look somewhere else next year. |

Anthony, drive safely. In case you pass nearby Basel/Mulhouse, make sure you stop at the Schlump museum. One of the best Ferrari collections in the world including some very old F racecars. You might want to take the route through Switzerland anyway, much more scenic than rural France. |

No news on this yet. I've got another 15 minutes at work and then I'm going home. And in the morning we'll drive to France. On Sunday we'll drive into Italy! Happy holidays to me! Andreas, look forward to meeting you next week. Here's hoping for a Ferrari 1-2. It feels like a VERY long time since the last one!!! |

This is an interesting rumour! From the Grandprix.com site: What next for Jordan? Tomorrow lunchtime in Paris it is expected that Giancarlo Fisichella will be named as the winner of the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix. It is expected that Jordan will take advantage of the coverage to announce a new sponsorship deal, part of which will see Eddie Irvine named as the team's test driver. This will presumably mean that Irvine will reappear at Grands Prix, running in a third car on Friday mornings. It should be noted that the information received comes from an anonymous tip and so it is possible that it is false but there seems little point in stories being leaked out if they are not going to come true. We will know within 24 hours...
