Which model? The Mmodial T is a great car, and if you shop carefully, you can get a good convertible for less than 50k. DON'T forget the prepurchase inspection. Failure to take that step could cost you many dollars, these cars are very, very expensive to service and repair.

Another benefit to finding a mechanic is he may have a client(s) that is getting ready to sell their car (and upgrade).

at the moment i am in the LA area as i just moved to CA. we are looking to settle out in the Calabassas or surrounding area so there's plenty of flat open roads although the heat could be a problem for a Brit like me but anything is better than the weather and moreso the attitide in the UK

hey den where do you live in so cal. i'm in sandiego i just bought my ferrari and it was the best thing i have ever done as far as car buying is concerned. and to the people telling you that you that you don't belong are just jealous they car doesn't make it an elite group its the people in the group that make it elite. You are about to embark in a club that is filled with great people who love cars. I have had so much help from these guys its incredible.Ferraris are very quirky. but you will soon come to love that about them you must remember they are all hand made. so welcome to our group.Todd

Just caught up with this thread. I was raised in London but spent most of my life in the USA. Long term Ferrari owner who loves the cars and hates the people who view them only as status symbols. Would suggest that before you make your first venture into them you find a local mechanic you like and trust and let him guide you. He is going to be the person keeping your car on the road and it's easier to find a good car than a good shop!

Gents...i simply cannot believe just how generous and kind that you guys are....(no sarcasm whatsoever)
Most people when i tell them that i am contemplating a Ferrari assume that i am trying to enter an elitist club to which i have no right to expect to join....
I now living in SoCal but was born in London and have alwasy worked in IT ususally for finance companies where the image of the Ferrari driver is obviously nothing like me.
I still class myself as an engineer and love the design and classical lines of the Ferraris...nothing to do with their coctail appeal...the name evokes passion in every sense in a world where most automotive travel is from A to B....so why shouldnt the journey be the reward ;)

In summation i would dearly love to take a ride with some genuine enthusiasts and hear what its like to actually own and drive my hobby.

den are you looking for a Mondial? I have a beautiful 1987 Cab with the 3.2 engine of the 328's. It actually only takes one person (me) to put the top up and down. I am thinking about selling mine to enable a purchase of a TR or 355 or 360 (still undecided).

Send me a private mail if you are interested in talking.

Used Mondials are great cars.
Some idiosyncrasies are its electrical system.
Dash and panel lights have grounding problems.
sometimes they're on, sometimes they're off.

The convertible roof is not user friendly.
It takes 2 people to fold and unfold properly.

Engine and maintenance is exactly the same as
its engine counterparts depending
on what year you get.

Don't expect it to be as fast or as nimble as the
308/328/348. The weight of the Mondials are
heavier therefor they feel like a boat
compared to the 2 seaters.

Just wanted to know if anybody had any experience of living with a used Mondial convertible. This will be my first foray into the world of Ferrari and i expect that i may on very rare occasions need to make a commute in the car but mainly want a weekend hobby car. Any ideas on likely running costs...problem areas ?
