"I really like the way they fill the wheel wells" It's no coincidence because I mounted the wheels and THEN started making the wheel wells! see 2nd picture. I also received 2 private mails asking about the wheels. They are Compomotive TS, 8x17 and 9x17 silver with polished rims. They make them in any size for any car you want. But be specific when ordering, I asked for offset zero front and back, and that was oke, but on delivery it turns out that the back wheels have a high negative offset. Instead of returning the wheels I decided to adapt the car instead, something not everybody will be inclined to do :-) Compomotive is UK based and well known for their replica wheels like for Cobra's, GT40's and of course Ferrari, and for their rally wheels. www.compomotive.com, look for modular. I paid 1800 Euro/dollar for the whole set, and after orientating on tirerack.com choose Bridgestone Poleposition S03 215/45 and 245/40. With zero offset the wheels would have fitted a standard 308/328 perfect. Almost my holiday! Afterwards the left side and back should be ready welded. To cold for applying filler though. Bert |

Bert, what a great project! Love the GTO look. What size wheel and tire comination are you using? I really like the way they fill the wheel wells. John |

The targa top will indeed be colour coded. But it won't be a "targa 288", I have no illusion people will mistake it for a GTO and it's not my intention either. It will look like what it is, a 308GTS with GTO styling marks, a lookalike but not a replica. On the back of the car I will just put "308" without "GTSi" and the horse to the right. |

Bart, I'm from Roermond, south of the Netherlands, 20 kilometers away from unlimited german Autobahn! Progression on the project was slow last 2 months, to busy. I was working on the car all my free time before, and other things from real life were suffering. But now I have all new parts to refresh my "gamma" cheap welder, and due (thanks) to slow economy, my company closes for 2 weeks around christmas/new year and I'm planning to spend all that time on the car. Glad it's not freezing anymore, because I work in an unheated place. Hope and expect to finish welding these 2 weeks. Then, there'll be small stuff like inner wings adapting, some regular maintanance like cambelts, was 5 years ago. For applying filler, temperature has to rise a little more and for finally spraying primer, basecoat and clearcoat it has to be 15 degrees Celcius, better even more. Would definitely be cool if it's ready in May to attend the meeting at the Nürburgring with my "Sheep in Wulvesclothes" (not sure how to spell "Schaap in Wolfskleren" in English). It's a target to work on! Will post updates here, Bert. |

Bert, welcome to the site. Once again another "dutchie" Where are you from if I may ask ? Looks like a great project, please let us know how it's going. Do you think it should be done like say, end may ? Would be great to see a rebuild 288 GTO on the Fchat meeting on the Nordschleife in june. Just check out on the bottom of the page the Europe section, there's some more info about that. And be sure to post some pictures when the project is finished, Good luck -Bart |

To fix the photos, if you are uploading them by typing: "\ image{....}", after each one just hit the enter key. That way they'll be one on top of the other. When do you expect to finish the project? When you're done, post pics here again... |

Peter, I have no experience with fiberglass, so even if I ordered one of these complete sets, I would have trouble fitting it properly. Besides they are expensive and not available in Europe, I searched a long time. Working in metal is much easier to me in this case. There is no panelbeating involved, all the rounded lines are only rounded in 1 direction, so I can just cut the metal to size and fold it in the right shape and attach it. If done right, only a very thin layer of filler is needed. No engine mods planned, it's a US version without cats and stuff, runs fine, 240 (150 mph) on the nearby German autobahn no problem. Sorry for the horizontal scroll, will do better next time. |

Congratulations in carrying out the project using steel. Most people would take the lazy way out and slap on fiberglass. Looks good. Good luck in finishing it. Are you doing any engine mods as well? |

This is my first post here, sort of an introduction. I live in the Netherlands and owned a 1980 308GTSi for almost 5 years. I started repairing some rust on it and had new wheels ordered and one thing led to another, well, see the pictures. Bert
