I just had the pleasure of soiling Mr. Doody's passenger carpet - and I must say, it was good dirty fun!

His interior is by far the most distinctive I've ever seen (rumour has it that there exists a yellow 360 coupe with a bordeaux interior matched with yellow stiching).

This car is definetly a sexy, sexy beast. Doody - I enjoyed breakfast, thank you much. I expect to receive you soon, as I've decided that rather than ship the 550 to you, your wife can ship you to the 550! :-)

It is nice either way. If the deal comes thru mine will be black/tan with shield, red caliper and sport seats. I am glad that the car has no tubi. I will post the picture when I physically own the 550.

Do you like your 550 better than 360??

doc - it's a us car. you can order pretty much whatever you please when it comes down to leather combos and the like. most people don't, of course, for fear of resale liability :-)

Doddy,
Is your 550 euro or US car?? I have never seen the combination like that before for the interior. Looks neat and something different :-)

Hi Sickspeed,

I love every single second of my F1 360. It only has 3065 miles for 2000 model year. My heart beats drum faster when I am in the car accelerating!!!

Something I never experienced with any of my 6 previously-owned 911s before!!!

I think I will go for the 550 like Doddy. It rains too much in Seattle, only 3 months of actual summer in a year, but very beautiful for a convertible driving (especially with a young cute girl)

I will post it when I get it to share it for everyone.

Doc... the 550 is a very attractive car, but how can you even notice it, when it's sitting right next to that 360...?

I have been thinking of trading in my 996 cab into a 550 maranello. I have test driven many 550s and love everyone of it. Such a nice smooth clutch, excellent center of gravity, much faster, more solid, and has the sleek Stallion design.

The only thing is I won't own anymore cabriolet sports car when I let go my 996. I am more convinced now after reading your comment, Doody!!

Any comment anyone??

There is a 1997 550 with only 14000 that I might be trading in with my 99 996 cab.

Indeed I test drove a 996tt and ended up got a 360 coupe.

I used to have 2Ps and I will have 2Fs soon, like you, Doddy!! It is a nice smooth transition from owning a 996 coupe and a 996 cab, to currently a 360 coupe and a 996 cab, then a 360 coupe and a 550, then later on climbing to ..... a 360 spyder and a 575M!! All have to be F1!!

I guess Ferrari is Ferrari. Porsche is great but my opinion, it is just simply a Volkswagen (no offense to any Porsche owner) as I drive this car in an everyday basis.

I will drive my future 550 everyday too while 360 is sleeping most of the times.

Beatiful interior, and FANTASTIC car!

I really love the way the 550 drives. Great power, silky smooth V12, and phenominaly (sp?) confortable inside.

I would gladly cut off my right leg for your car.

Enjoy it!

thanks guys!

ONLINESYS: the front grille is stock - i think the picture is just so dark you can't see any detail in there.

BJKIM: the 996TT was traded in on the 550.

i don't have any particular early returns other than to say that the car is wonderful. i've been driving it, but it's all "around-town" stuff. i had her out on the highway briefly on saturday, and, well, let's just say she's a joy to drive "quickly" ;-).

as to comparing the 550 to the 996TT, it's tough. they are really quite different cars. i don't miss the turbos spooling up - the smoother power curve of the normally aspirated engine is wonderful. i definitely don't miss the e-gas. i don't miss the AWD. the 550 is much much more comfortable. i didn't expect that. the 996TT felt "more nimble". the 550 is about 10% heavier than the 996TT. HP-to-weight is about 7% better on the 550, but torque-to-weight is about 8% better on the 996TT. performance wise they are very similar - at least in my hands. the 550 does feel heavier and much more solid. i haven't really had the opportunity to throw her around yet - i expect i'll be pleasantly surprised based on some early random returns.

i'll try post more later in the month when i've had more seat time.

i'm growing less and less enamored of the tubi every day though. while it sounds GORGEOUS, it's loud and conspicuous. one of the things i like about the 550 is that, design-wise, it's rather understated (relatively speaking). i'm sure the quiet-ish stock exhaust was designed with that in mind. plus it robs some low-end torque to boot.

already christened the beast - curbed a wheel on day 4. the car is WIDE. at least i got it out of the way early.

doody!

WOW!!!

Very nice, did you sell your 996TT? How do you like your new toy compare to 996TT?

I think, your 550 has the most beautiful interior that I've seen. I really like the two tone interior with piping.

Enjoy

Congrats Doody! The perfect exterior color but I prefer the black interior as well.

It seems to me that the front grill is not an original one?!

Enjoy!

the interior came from the factory this way, spec'd by the original owner of the car. not sure what "standard" is, but deviating inserts, piping, stitching, etc. are all options at order time.

is the interior standard? Pipping is a bite much for me but over all it's cool

Santa came early this year! I picked up my 06/99 build 550 Maranello about five days ago. Mother Nature has been unusually cooperative here in New England, and with one exception, I've been able to take her out every day. Of course she's rather filthy now given that she's black and there's still plenty of salt messiness on the road; but us mashochistic black-car-fan New Englanders know the drill.

Here are a couple exterior pics:

And here's the decidedly distinctive interior. I'm (obviously) a fan of it, though from what I can tell not everybody shares my enthusiasm (including my wife!).
