I would second Patrick Ottis. He was recommended on this board, and I now drive from Sacramento to have him work on my car. Should be perfect for a PPI.

James,

I dunno. Whatever the case is, too bad it didn't go over well. As far as your schedule - I do know that Tony is booked literally MONTHS if not a year in advance.

Maybe it is worth it to go elsewhere?

Dan,
Maybe he is the nicest mechanic you know but I dont think he asked me what I did for a living out of genuine interest. He probably is one of the best Ferrari mechanics out there and he is very busy because he is good, but I told him I was in no rush to have the work done, he still did not offer to put me on his schedule. By the way, I drove into his shop in my Toyota pickup with work boots, t-shirt and jeans.
Somebody once said to me, and I quote:
"You have only one chance to make a good first impression."
Im sorry to say, he did not make a good first impression on me.

James,

Tony at Modena Motors is EXTREMELY busy. He probably asked out of genuine interest. I have known him for some time, and he is one of the nicest mechs out there. He has been extremely receptive to me (and never asked what I did) - well above and beyond any call of duty.

I trust his opinion as #1. I don't know of anyone more skilled in the bay area (this is from research before I met him), as is evidenced by how much he has to do. No one will do the quality of work he does.

Also, if you want to travel a little, try Lyle Tanner in Campbell. The mechanic there is Juan and he is very good and great price.

Mark Spencer helped Dom Vitarella (in this forum). I referred Dom to him and he seemed pleased with Mark's work. His shop is called Veloce Speedesign.

James,

>>I went to Modena Motors in Redwood City once and wanted to have my lower control arm bushings replace. The first thing he asked me was what I did for a living. Then he said he was too busy to work on my 308. I can understand him being busy but why did he ask what I did for a living. Guess one has to be a doctor or lawyer to be on his clients list.<<

Next time tell him you're a drug dealer with a trigger happy assistant. And that you're in a REAL hurry. :-)

That's what he would deserve for that kind of rubbish attitude.

Cheers

Patrick Ottis is very good, but expensive. Well who isn't. I would not recommend Skelton Ferrair (just my opinion), Dino Motors in San Mateo is very good.
Good Luck.

I didn't know Tony had any time! That guy is the best in the area, IMO, but sooo busy I don't think I'd ask him to do anything unless it was critical / pressing.

I had mine done a Modena Motors in Redwood City, ask for Tony. Her is a little pricey at 500.00, but did a great job.

I did a PPI from FoSF. Was pretty fair. $480 for it.

I have heard great things about both Otis and Skelton.

Roberto,
If your inspecting a earlier 308, you might try Patrick Otis in Berkeley. He is about the best in the business. He specializes in earlier and vintage Ferraris. Brett at Skelton Ferrari is also very good. They are listed in Forza as well as the local directory. I would stay away from the dealers on a older car. I don't think they have any technicians old enough to know how to service them ; )

Best of luck!

Any suggestions for PPIs in the SF Bay Area?

There is Ferrari of San Francisco in Mill Valley. Has anyone had a PPI there? Are there other shops that are qualified in doing so? Also, any thoughts on price for this service in the specific shops? Thanks.
