OT on V1: I have V1's in all my cars... been using them for many years... they all indicate front vs. rear with accuracy... there's a bit of a delay as I pass something before it switches direction... but it consistently switches. I have some mounted high (above rear view mirror); I have some mounted low, jut above the dash. I doubt that is your issue. Only suggestion: check where your mirrors are in relation to the V1... but that's almost surely not the issue with a low/on-dash position. |

My 360 Spider recently experienced constant flat batteries, Ferrari UK replaced the battery but to no avail. I eventually purchased trickle charger that plugs into compartment in topside of boot.

Get a Battery Tender by Deltran. I have one for each car and they really work! http://www.batterystuff.com/battery/12volt.htm

Brian, You're absolutely right and I learned that the hard way. The car is off to WWOC Wednesday. They are picking it up in an enclosed flatbed. I'm also having them do the 15,000 mile service to replace the belts since they have the car and it is 4 years old. Rick, My V1 sometimes also indicates a side alarm as opposed to front or back but I usually don't see anything so I assume it's a motion detector or garage door opener on the same frequency. I have never seen it indicate a side threat that was actually in front at the time.

I had a similar problem where the battery would drain after 2 or 3 days of sit time. Dave Helms, of Thomas Vintage Motors installed the wiring for a trickle charger that has eliminated the problem, which was also wiping out computer programming due to dead battery condition. From my research this dead battery fault is quite common but is easily remedied for under a $100. Good Luck; BTW you can call Dave at 303-449-9112. |

this is off topic, but could i ask you a question? i have a Valentine one in all my cars and they work very well. but it seems that when the V1 tries to tell me from which direction the radar is coming from (front or back arrows) about half the time it is incorrect. if this only happened in one of my cars i would think i had a faulty detector. but i believe it happens in all of my cars. i have my V1 affixed to the windshield near the dashboard on my 360 modena. maybe it doesn't have a clear view out the back window and this causes problems with the front/back arrows?? |

Egad... never EVER charge your battery while its connected to the car!!! Open the trunk lid... in the back upper left you'll see a round master switch... turn it to the off position. That breaks the circuit connecting the battery to the rest of the car. Then hook up the battery charger. Once charged adequately, then unhook the battery charger and then turn the master switch back to the on position. Chargers will typically wreak havoc on your Ferrari's electronics! Codes will get set. A visit to the dealer is probably necessary. On the V1 install... yes, I have my V1 hardwired into the overhead lights such that power to it is cut off with the ignition. Unfortunately, no, I can't tell you which wire... I had James Patterson (Norwood) do it for me one time when I had it in for service. So, all I can say is that it *is* possible. |

Rosso, I really had my hopes up on that one. I looked up the "self learning procedure for the motor driven valves" It says to simply leave the ignition in position II for 10 seconds. I tried it but it did not help. Thanks for the idea though. I'm calling my local dealer, WWOC tomorrow.

John-- Read up in your owners maunal about the throttle auto-learn after the battery has been disconected. This may help with the 1500 rpm porblem. As well, the Fiamm batteries are known not to hold charges after dying out. Once one cell is bad, its best to replace the battery. |

John, I have experienced a similar issue with my 360. This was a faulty connector. For the V1, you have 2 easy options. #1 is to get the switched 12v from the radio. Pull the radio, use a voltmeter to find out which wire is switched on only with the ignition. #2 is to unmount the roof light following the "how to change a bulb" user manual instruction, use a voltmeter to find out where you get switched 12v and solder 2 small wires for your V1. I just got back from a one week trip and went to take my 360 out for a spin and found it had a dead battery. It seems I had left my Valentine 1 radar detector on last time I drove the car. I have left it on before and it never was a problem as it doesn't draw much current at all but I guess a week was too long. Anyways I put a charger on the battery and the car immediately started freaking out. The alarm was on and the lights were blinking. Once the battery got enough charge in it I was able to de-activate the alarm with the button on my key. I tried to start it a couple of times with my charger in start mode (a 275 amp boost) but the battery was too dead to start it. I then left it on a 2 amp trickle charge over night. I went to start it up this morning and it started and idled but would not rev over 1,500 rpm. I drove it a little thinking that might get it going but it didnt improve. Thinking that I may have blown a fuse when I was using the booster last night, I checked all the fuses and they were all ok. So as it is right now the car starts and will only rev up to 1,500 and the check engine light is on. It ran fine last time I drove it. Has anyone experienced a problem similar to this before?? Any help is greatly appreciated. I would also like to know a wire to safely splice into to power my V1 radar detector that is switched on and off with the ignition key. I have all my other cars wired this way so I simply always leave my radar detector on and the power is cut off to it when I turn off the ignition key. That way I never forget to turn it on and also it never draws down the battery. I couldn't tell what wires were what when I was permanently mounting my radar detector so I just ran it directly off the battery. Has anyone here permanently mounted a radar detector that is switched with the ignition key? If so do you know what wire you spliced into? I'm thinking I will have to have my car towed to a dealer to sort this mess out. |
