This picture was taken one kilometer from the factory. Fun to have in your rear view mirror!

Larry,
realy awesome great pic from the factory - never seen such a pic! Shot on a Sunday ( no traffic and the gate is closed)? I love the PROVA licene plate of the Enzo. Thats also the licence to speed in Italy on all public roads without getting any speed-tickets!

Here's a few pics from last fall. The first is the Factory from a room at the Planet Hotel and the second is of the Factory store on the main floor, the Fiorano track entrance and a new Enzo being test driven.

@Roger
well that was then the tour in 1998 or 99...(I backed out on that event when we were in Milan...I was a bit sick at the time :-(
When I did visited the Factory (the same year as Niels) we didn't get that nice passport...I would love to have one...but unfortunately I don't. But I do have those very nice memories...of visting the heart of Ferrari...the FACTORY! It's absolute worth a two or even four day drive :-)

Mario,

There's probably only one way to get one : visit the factory ! We were there with the Dutch Ferrari Club; I don't know if it's usual to give a passport to every visitor, but we (56 members) got all one without asking for it

Well I have been lucky enough to visit Ferrari, Lamborghini and De Tomaso a six years ago and it is really a thing to do! Unfortunately, Ferrari does not allow you to take pictures, where Lamborghini and De Tomaso do (at least back then!) If you are into classic Ferraris as well, you should have a look at Tony Auto in Maranello, who restores classic Ferraris often. And if you happen to pass San Marino on your way back to rome ;-) make sure you go to the Ferrari Collection overthere. Can't remember the name right now, but it is the collection of the Scuderia Campoglio (or something like that).

Hi Mario,
When in Modena, stay at the planet hotel, book now! www.planethotel.org ask for a factory vista on an upper floor. Brand new hotel right across the street from the factory and above the factory store. Also it's very reasonable by Italian standards, I paid 100 Euros for myself and my Wife.

Eat here, it's right next door http://www.ristorante-cavallino.it/ , and eat at Montanas, ten minute walk.

The road south to La Spezia is amazing, it goes over the Modenese Appennines through Abetone. This road is amazing! Lightly travelled and thousands of turns...really needs to be driven in an F car, however any rental is great fun.

I've been trying to post pics but I'm getting a message that they are too big, any tips?

Do the trip, You and your Wife will love it.

Try sending a letter to Maranello direct and include pictures of your car, your license, Registration and how passionate you are about Ferrari and how happy to be able to own one, even if it is just an older car.

I have had nothing but positive experience when setting up my tour. Thought it would be a hassle and turned out to be the easiest part of the trip.

Give them time well in advance. Like December when you want to come, give them weeks you would like to visit, like from the 6th of Dec to the 18th.

I've been to the factory twice, once in 2000 and again in 2002. And each time I was enthralled by the Ferraris that were in the assembly lines. The first time was to see/collect my 360 after my Pilota Course in Mugello and the second time was when I went for the Pilota Advanced Course at Fiorano. I had the chance to see the Enzo being tested at the Fiorano track and then had the chance to see the Enzo in parts, in the factory ready to be assembled. It's a must for every Ferrari enthusist. Mario don't miss the chance. And make sure you have your lunch at the Cavallino restaurant.

Roel, your local Ferrari dealer can get you into the factiry if he wants to. There is no pre-requisite to be able to visit the factory excepth that it has to be through the dealer. When I went there in 2002, I took a friend from Switzerland who does not own a Ferrari. Why he does not even own a car but he is an enthusiast and we met through Ferrari World Forum. He waited for me outside the reception office and we went in togetehr with our group. But I did tell my dealer before hand that I am bringing a friend, so there was no problem at all.

Think is asked before but how do I arange a tour at the Factory? I asked the dutch Ferrari club but they can't help. I asked the Ferrari dealer in Holland but they will not help because I am not a customer for a new Ferrari. I 'only' drive a 208gt4.
I know it is not possible to just drive there and get in. Please advise!!!

Mario Mario Mario !!!!

what a question!

Take a rental and drive up there. It is a few hours but you just have to!

You can drive up in the eve of the day before. Stay in the Hotel just accross the factory (I can give you phone and contact), get the 05 or 06 line of rooms. Do the tour in the morning and then shop till you drop, see the Gallery and have lunch at Cavallino (Wait, I don't remember if they were open for lunch...) Have dinner the night before at Montana. The owners are darling!
Bring an extra suitcase for all the models you will buy. The Ferrari Store is just under the Hotel and other shops are all in walking distance.

The region is absolutely breath taking and worth its own trip. Tourist traps (Florenz, Pisa) did not impress me as much as some of the hidden treasures in the region. Food is just excellent.

You can head up there the night before (as I said) and head back to Rome the evening and arrive in Rome in time for dinner. Cutting the region short of showing you what it has but if you want to go back to Rome....

Rome is one vacation.
Emiglia Romana/Tuscany is another trip.
The Coast from Monaco to Capri is another trip.
Italy has a lot to offer.

In addition to all that's been mentioned so far, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the drive to/from. The autostrade through Tuscany is beautiful. Get something reasonably fun, maybe a convertible, and the drive there might alone be worth it. To even further appeal to your wife, perhaps spend the prior or following night in Firenze (aka Florence). World-class restaurants and museums there can easily justify the trip as well. (I love Italy.)

:-) Terra di Motori :-)

Don't forget to go in Sant'Agata to visit the Lamborghini Museum, to Modena (Maserati, Scaglietti, De Tomaso),to Bologna for Ducati, to San Marino for Aprilia and Group MV Agusta ! and near Maranello : Pagani Zonda !!!
And visit Maranello, there is a lot to see, like monuments, Galleria, Fiorano track (there is always something on track like 360 Challenge Stradale, Enzo or F2003-GA,) some stores and bars If you have the chance to go inside the factory, that is exceptional !

You know one day I was talking to my friends about going to Italy and visiting the Ferrari and Lamborghini factories. My friends then said, that's after you see all the sights right? You're not just going to italy to visit a ferrari factory? My answer is, I think Ferrari and Lamborghini (although automobile companies) are a big part of Italian history. Does anyone else agree?

Super Mario- Please post about your experiences when you return, or e-mail to my address with any advice from your travels through the Modena area. I am going to Italy in May '04 for a healthy dose of cavallino (2-3 days). Unfortunately didn't make it to Maranello on my last trip to Italy, but DYING to go in 8 months and breathe it all in.

DO IT!!! I came away even more in love with the marque than I was before! Make sure you get this arranged ASAP so that you won't be disappointed if it can't be scheduled during your trip.
Above all, enjoy!!

Mario, had my long time girlfriend with me, who is really not too much into these cars, but she had a blast. At least in town that is. We both were soso impressed with the tour. Yes you see the Enzos etc, but maybe we expected too much. However what the other fellows here said is all true: Maranello alone holds so much history and things to look at, that is definitely worth it. We loved the museum the most actually.

And yes, Tuscany is worth seeing every time. Think Pisa, Florence and the countryside south of it. So much culture, so much to see, eat, drink and enjoy. Trust me, you'll both will love it. My girl did and that is a good indicator for any not too much into cars girl.

Maranello, this is where my baby will be born ('04 Spider or Stradale, still haven't made up my mind 100%). I made the trip to Italy just for the tour! It shouldn't be missed.

It is THE coolest tour I have ever been on in my life. I would NEVER< EVER go to Italy without going on this tour. It is about 1.5 hrs and seeing those cars go down the line being made is simply incredible. Enzos on one side, 360's and 575's in the middle. On the far side of this area is where they make the interiors. They also take you into the area where the engines are made. The plant is impecably clean and everyone was very courteous, but not real warm and fuzzy.

In one word?absolutely. My wife and I toured the factory last summer, then went to Monza. We saw Enzo?s #3 through 9 being assembled. That was worth the trip alone. You can do the tour, museum, and shop in a day, and still have time for a nice lunch. Modena is just down the road, and the surrounding Tuscan countryside is beautiful. If you're renting a car, I would check out Sienna and San Gimigiano.

Hi Mario, definitely it's worth it! GO! It's just not the factory but the whole town of Maranello that you have to experience.

There's lots to see including the test track Fiorano, shops, and of course the Cavallino and Montana Rest.

My wife and I are going to Italy in late October. I'm trying to include the Ferrari Factory in the itenerary. Truthfully, it is out of our way. (We are flying in to Rome) However, I am of the mind that it is likely worth the 2 days out of the way.

My wife is going to be watching this thread to hear what you all have to say. :-) Please give it to me straight..is it worht it? Is the tour more than just a look and see? Have any of you brought the wife?

Thank you in advance.

Mario
