markPDX: frank's email below sounds like a challenge to your photoshop skillzzz...

i saw an ad in the local paper for a kia something, $87/month on a straight buy (not a lease or retail balloon). may have been for 72 months but not often your insurance payment is close to your car payment!

if these cars are better than they used to be, i have always thought kia and hyundai needed to market their US cars with different names. people hear the words Kia & Hynudai and immediately think crap...

that car kind of looks like a 360,too. put some round taillights on the back, and some side scoops, and "hideaway" headlights in front...instant mini 360.

Hey Guys,
Let me give you my point of view on these cars. I trade Hyundais and Kias all the time. Although the styling is getting better and the (powertrain) warranty is 100,000 (non-transferable) there always has been stigma in the auto business with these cars. This is reflected in the resale values. Everyone knows that a new car depreciates the minute it is driven off of the lot. Well, maybe not an F-car, but you know what I mean. The ratio of depreciation on one of these Korean cars is mindblowing! They can lose up to 50% of their trade in value the second you drive away from the dealership. Ouch!! And if you don't plan on keeping it for the duration of the loan, you are most likely going to take a big hit. I am not trying to talk down on another manufacturer because, God knows, Chrysler has not had a sterling history and is really only getting their act together recently. I just wanted to give you my incite because I see it everyday. Basically, as always, you get what you pay for.

Doody, I saw it in person diving on Fort Lauderdale Beach and it looks much better then the photos.

I twisted my head and had to look 3 times before I could rule it out as a Ferrari. Looks rich in person, not like a Asian car at all.

Not bad for what... a $14,000? car from Pininfarina with a ten year warranty.

The hyundai's V6 is notouriously weak. I think GM's stuff is quite a bit better at least as far as reliability. If you base it on problems per car type of statistics.MOst of those quality surveys suggest korean build quality hasn't caught up to american standards yet. But they are a ton better then they were a few years ago. On the styling end I like the tiburon. I think there adding a convertable soon as well.

While I do not have a Kia, I think they have come a long way and offer a lot of car for the money. Wish them the best. Certainly better than GM IMHO.

FYI: The Hyundai is visually designed by Pininfarina. So if it is visually the same like a Pininfarina designed Ferrari, blame the design house for not coming up with fresh, new designs.

Enjoy the Drive,

I think it looks a lot better than the last body style thet was made. That thing was ugly as hell. I thought about buying one but for some reason they put a back seat that even a child wouldnt have any room.

With a 10 year warranty, who cares how reliable it is? :-)

Seriously though, the 10 year warranty has forced Hyundai/Kia to make a reliable car. I hear he Sorento is a great truck for the money.

The car looks much better in person. I was going to buy one, but the top engine is only 200 hp-pretty weak these days.
