Btw, the car has already been repainted once. The photo of the rust bubble shows the body seam does not have the proper black silicone filler in the seam/joint....common mistake after a repaint.

Well im definately trying to be honest. Its definately not a creampuff. It is a good car for a do-it yourselfer, that may not have the 40,000 to come up with for a nice car.

Anyways, not really my problem. I figured if someone wanted it, i could help my friends out.

How many times have you went to look at a car and the seller says it's in good or fair condition and you get there and it's in terrible, terrible condition. The condition of a car various from people to people. I get the same feeling here. I would be embarrassed to say this car was mine, couldn't even drive in this condition. People would laugh it! Anyone here didn't laugh, be honest.

I have anxiety thinking about all the stuff that has to be done to this car to bring it up to par...there's a good list started but I will GUARANTEE there's even more to come...weatherstripping, windows don't operate or perhaps very slowly, all kinds of rattling noises when you drive it, carpeting, etc...trust me, this kind of project starts to snowball...unless of course you 1/2 ass it

Also the tach needs to be rebuilt or replaced. New radio. I'm betting the transmission just needs a fresh change of fluid to be shifting fine again, but you never know... Anyone notice the engine lid has an antenna or something drilled into it? Ouch. The engine compartment looks like it has a lot of mild corrosion on all the fuel injection pieces and cam covers(Hawaii salt air? And stored in a car port, rather than a garage?). Basically this car looks really neglected...all the issues screams "cheap owner" to me. It definitely could be a nice "project car" for someone that wanted to make it into a nice runner. But would agree with Allen, it is too far gone to be investing the kind of money to make it into a concours car. It is worth low twenties at best, and if I were recommending it to a friend, would tell them to pay no more that 17 or 18k to ensure you minimize the risk. There are plenty of better pedigreed cars available starting in the high 30's, why bother with such a risky endevour, unless you can get it for a song?

In some ways you are correct. This is not a car to make a concours vehicle from. As i noted, i would leave the paint alone. If you really wanted to, then fix the couple of rust spots on the drivers side. It does not need seats. A good leather dye job with Leatherique would do the trick. Recover center console. I dont think there is a major tranny problem. Id repair the a/c, but someone else may not bother.

After speaking with them today, i think i can get it for 24,000-25,000.

It would also be a good car for a 288 Gto conversion.

A good 86 would be worth $40k

I know its worth more then $18k, but you need to find a guy that doesn't know it needs $15k worth of work on day one. And then I figure a $5k fund for what goes wrong from there.

Something tells me, don't walk away from this car, but run...

Anyone who's cheesy enough to put that ugly thing on their steering wheel, probably gets the imperial super delux paint job at Maaco, and changes their oil with a filter from Pep boys..

Since Bruce decided to put his 2 cents in on the other thread, i started a new one here. Ive been driving the car around today, and it runs fine. Temp is good, idles correctly etc. The tranny does shift a little rough, no grinding, just seems to be resistant. From the outside the car looks pretty good. The passanger side has no visible rust, while on the driver side there is some by the pilar and on the bottom of the door. If you arent particularly anal, you could pass with the paintjob as is. Good shine, some door dinks, etc. The interior, is tan, although someone recovered the seats in black. The leather door panels need to be either refinished or changed, so does the center console and steering wheel. The speedo does not work, and the tach is off. A/c does not work, nor does the radio. This car would make a nice project car, that can be drivien while worked on. Personally, id just respray the door panels, throw in some race seats, a new steering wheel, shift knob, and fix the a/c. Maybe some cat-bypass pipes and have a nice driver that your not worried about on every corner. Heres a few pictures.
Im just skimming over basics here, as i will look into the car much more fully for anyone interested. They also have alot of records on this car, and the timing belt was changed 3 years ago.Upload
