This is great. I just added a "308 Parts Cross Reference" that Mark Gordon sent in. Please keep them coming. |

I'm with you Craig. I love this idea. It could also include a cross ref. for non Ferrari replacement parts. |

We're getting a lot of new members and potential owners as well as those of us who are getting older and can't remember as well as we could when we were younger. So here's my suggestion.... Below is a chart showing two columms: "Common Items w/issues" & "Common Issues" (Call them anything you want) The idea here is to make it easy to troubleshoot a problem. If you have a symptom on your car, go to the "common issues" and see what it might be. If you want to know what common issues that your car may have with the alternator, then go to the "Common Items w/ issues" part. So each "Common Item" gets a list of issues that may be associated with it(then these become "common issues" too). If we can list the top two or three problems that cause each of the "Common Issues", it should help us troubleshoot the problem. Here is the list I made for the 308/328: Common Items w/ issues......................Common Issues --------------------------------......................-------------------- Water Pump..........................................Slowdown Light Brakes & Fluid........................................Oil pressure low drive belts..............................................Water temp high timing belts.............................................missing bonnet strut..........................................runs on 4 cyl rear bonnet struts..................................doors don't close air conditioning.....................................windows slow steering rack..........................................fuel smell gas gauge..............................................coolant overflows power antenna......................................Tire size/clearance Leather trim..........................................windshield sealant alternator...............................................brake warning light on radiator....................................................gas tank pressure engine oil level.......................................Low level dash lights transaxle oil level...................................difficulty into 2nd gear Seals......................................................ticking on idling Plugs......................................................squeaks on idle Plug wires...............................................wind whistle Distrib. cap..............................................idles rough Distrib. rotor.............................................idles high Air ducts...................................................idles low Air horns.................................................Speedometer not on zero Spare tire................................................Misc rattles Roof latch.................................................rust oil filter.....................................................bent jacking points air filter....................................................torn bonnet seals Emblems.................................................worn seat bolster Clutch......................................................oil leak at dist cap ************************************************** I'm sure there are others. For example: WATER PUMP >>>Whining noise >>>>>Pump bearing bad >>>Water temp high >>>Belt squeal >>>>>Belt loose >>>>>Bearing siezed >>>Drips coolant >>>>>Pump seal bad If this looks like a monumental job, it may be! But if we break it down into small parts like this, we can get it done easily. And while it's being constructed, it will be useful to all of us allowing us to quickly find the problem without having to search the archives. Eventually, we can work this into a service procedure for each of the items. And of course, since I wrote this, I am also volunteering to help Rob document this for the PARTS & SERVICE section. |
