They hate the car because its a pleasure they can't control. Further, they hate it because it is a pleasureable escape from them.

Sounds like women's main job in life is to make their men miserable. :-) Come to think of it, some of my friends who go married seems to have had a personality change. More like they're on a leash. Know how hard it is to get your friends to play golf when they have to beg for a few hours from their wives?

They hate them so much because they see us enjoying something. A woman can't be happy if she sees a smile on a man's face. It really infuriates my wife that I spend time or money on the car and it is really getting to her that our daughter who is 3 really loves the car. She, ( my daughter) crawled in the wheel well when I was changing the a/c out and started asking what all the engine parts were I guess she needs to know since she claims it is her "Ferrari Car"

My wife can't stand it! She wants me to get rid of it. When I asked why, she said cause it was a money pit. If the subject of money comes up and I start saying that we aren't going to spend waistfully, she will then make a comment about my Ferrari!

I think it has to do with the money going to what you want and not what they want.

The funny thing is that she wanted me to teach her how to drive stick. I let her drive it once before I got the new clutch and flywheel put in. I figure, hey it's fried anyway she can't do any worse. But then she started talking about "yeah then I can take it to work". I DON'T THINK SO!!! When she could care less about the car and wants me to get rid of it. She hasn't been behind the wheel since.

They don't like the difficulty of getting in and out; don't like the heat, comfort, noise, smell or never knowing when she may be called upon to help push it off the road; other than that likes it just fine

When I was dating I was also roadracing motorcycles, so the girls I would date attended my races . They would hold the umbrella on the grid for me, and if the hair on the back of their necks wouldn't stand up when th engine fired up I knew they had no passion for motorsports. On free weekends we would attend CART races or other Motorsports events and if she didn't get goose pimples on the command to start engines once again I knew this was not the girl for me. My wife shares my love for motorsports and cars , and it seems so do my kids.

I could sell my car tomorrow and my wife wouldn't care, but she'd be sad that I'd abandoned my dream car. She's never driven it in the year I've owned it even though I've offered. When it's time for a night on the town, she'd rather take the Jag. But she does understand how I feel about it and doesn't discourage me.

I am currently working on obtaining my first car.
I am leaning to the Boxer in place of my original
choice; of the Testarossa. I assume she would probably feel the Boxer is less money! Each car
has nice merits in my opinion. How about both
honey.

I will know when it is time to introduce the new car! I will keep it secure in the back of my
warehouse office. I will pay dearly for it - for a few days. This was exactly how my 2nd motorcycle was with her. is it worth it ?

Ken,
I believe spouses should support each other's passions, even if they don't share them, so long as they do not interfere with family goals financially or otherwise.
My own wife is much like Mike's just below. She was a hard sell for the first car until she saw me and my first Ferrari that I had not yet bought together. She told me later she could see the joy in my face and wanted me to have that. I am thankful to have chosen such a great woman and that she would have me!
In return, I have never lied to her about buying any car, it's price, and the cost of maintenence, etc. which was considerable on some cars. Lies make things worse.
Ken, my gut tells me there is some other issue with your wife. Find out what it is. I'm sure her attitude can't be helping your enjoyment of the car. More importantly, the situation can't be very good for your marriage either. I hope I am not stepping out of bounds here, but if my wife said what yours did about rather having me cheat on her, I would be very concerned.

When she says "I am glad you enjoy it", that means she hates the Damn thing. They will not express their true feelings until some "event" brings it out. The triggering "event" is up to you.

I was single when I bought the Ferrari. My wife has driven it, and been to the track and various club events, but doesn't particularly care one way or another. She says, "I'm glad it gives you pleasure -- it's your toy and I want you to enjoy it."

I'm grateful for that! And I *do* enjoy it.

My wife was a LITTLE bit upset when all of a sudden the 308 was in the garage. Now 2 years later, I took her to her first F event (Concours Italian Style) and now she wants a 360 Spider something fierce! Go figure.

My wife absolutely hated my infactuation with Ferrari's but put up with it because she knew it was the car I had been saving for since I was a little kid. However, that all changed a couple of weeks ago when I took her out to dinner and decided to hit the "cruz strip" afterward for a few laps (something I haven't done for several years). She could not believe the attention (although she didn't like the girls screaming out their phone numbers) and found it amusing that kids, as well as grown adults, were falling all over themselves to get a better look at the car. She had a perma-grin the entire night. In fact, when I started heading back home she asked if we could go back and make a couple of more laps.

When I was debating whether to order my 550 or keep it in the stock market (!), it was my wife who urged me to order it & fulfill a passion I have had since I was a teenager--a front engine V-12 Ferrari! Turns out her timing couldn't have been better vis a vis the market, but who knew? So, she loves the car (the 2nd one, the 328GTS, was her Christmas present this past year), but is a bit intimidated to drive it on anything but open highway...

My fiancee thinks the 328 is cool, but isn't as crazy about it as I am. Didn't lie to her about the price, since it was my money. When I got it, she asked if it would be a finicky car. I just said "Hopefully not!" The only thing she doesn't like about it is when the interior gets warm, usually just in heavy traffic. So far, she's been reluctant to drive it. Oh well-Senna loves it!

When my uncle found out I was going to get married he mailed me a Ferrari hat with a note that said "if you get married this is the closest you will get to a Ferrari. I have a picture of my wife wearing that hat in the garage with the Ferrari.

My wife hates my Ferrari. She even calls it the "Fiero" It may have something to do with the fact that I surprised her with it by buying it and putting it in the garage without her knowledge. She didn't talk to me for three days. The fact that I have a 17 month old daughter and we all can't fit in the car makes matters worse. My wife has driven it once but I can't get her to go on the Ferrari rally's with me. I don't think anyone knows I'm married.

Here's something slightly different:

I have friends and relatives who seems to think that I must get rid of the Ferrari when I get married. I don't understand this kind of thinking at all. What does Ferrari ownership have to do with marriage anyway? It's my hobby and I don't hear anyone say I should get rid of a stamp or baseball card collection before marriage.

"My wife even admitted that she would have preferred that I slept with another woman than purchase a Ferrari."

How many other women..................

But seriously--when I cashed out some stock and bought my F355 last year, I gave my wife an equal amount of cache to do with whatever she wanted--she still hates the Ferrari!

My wife blew me away recently.

I've been talking about our future Mondial cabriolet for quite some time and wanted to show her one up close. We went to the local investment car dealer where I had been admiring their Mondial t cab. When my wife saw it, she said, "That's the Mondial?!? It doesn't have the body shape like a Ferrari should have! Why don't you get THAT one?" ...as she spun around and pointed to the yellow 348 Spider. "THAT looks more like a Ferrari should look."

In this case, I'm totally for the Mondial since we have two precious 3 yr old twin girls who are total Ferrari nuts like their dad. I couldn't stand to buy a two-seater and leave my Ferrarikids at home. My wife, on the other hand, suggests that my Ferrari fancy would probably be better suited with one daughter at a time or my friends. I think she'll catch on to the Ferrari-family concept when we go for a ride. ;-) Vroom, vroom.

Oh, and when the salesman said I looked good in the Mondial (nice line, huh?) my wife said, "Oh, we'll buy one all right. He's determined and he won't stop until we own one."

Is my wife Ferrari-infatuated? Nope. Does she understand me? Better than I thought before we went in!!

By the way, both F-cars are for sale at Northwest Investment Cars in Portland, Oregon. Very nice store.

I used the same story. The 348 needed some parts, and they gave me the 355 as a loaner (yeah, sure they knew that I'd never go back, once I'd driven the 355, but I didn't know that) After 2 months, I'm driving the 355, and my wife says: You bought this, didn't you? I couldn't lie, cost me a remodel on the bedroom, the bathroom, a vacation, etc.

Hate a Ferrari? What are you crazy??????

hmmmmmmmmmm - I think I should start a "Learn to Love Ferrari" seminar for your better halves.

I don't just LOVE tha cars....I worship them!

only dated one person that had one though......never thought the owners were very nice.

Seriously though some women feel the need to compete for affection with your car or friends......by just making her feel special you can easily have both and get her to enjoy the car too.

My wife really likes the Ferrari. As far as the bills go though I have to admitt she doesn't always get the full story. I always sugar coat it a little bit. Actally a lot of bit. One of the best stories on the board is the guy that bought the new Ferrari and said it was a loaner. He had it for like a month before she caught on. Was that you Art?

I don't yet own a Ferrari, but my wife is very supportive of my obsession. She has purchased most of my Ferrari Garb. and has been very accomondating when every trip or vacation has the mandatory visit to the closest Ferrari Dealer. I have had the opportunity of taking care of a few friend's Ferraris for extended periods of time and she really likes having them at the house. She wants me to have a Ferrari and have made it a Family goal. She really likes the look of the old cars, but prefers the Horsepower of the new ones.

i have a friend who i'm madly in love with and, although her passion for Ferraris (and other exotics) isn't as high as mine, she still can't deny that just the site of a Ferrari makes her... mmmm...

In any case, she's into other cars; wants a Lexus GS420 and even though my '93 Nissan Sentra takes about twice as long to get from 0 to 60 as the FX takes to get from 0 to 124, she still likes it when i push it... says my driving gloves are sexy... she's definitely a car chick, that's for sure... maybe 's why i'm so in love with her...

My wife said that my Ferrari looks to Modern!
Modern, I said, For crying out loud honey, it's 25 years old.... OK then look in this book, and pick out the one that You like!
So she goes and picks... an inter....
I don't remember if it was a 212 or an earlier one, but I told her that I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a house let alone a car....
She picked at her #2 choice a Daytona, Sooo.
I'm good with that!

So the moral of the story?
Get one that she likes enough to be seen in...
and... also get one that she can't stand, and that car will be, your little !

My wife likes them! While she would not go and buy one herself, she likes the looks, quality, speed and 'specialness' of these cars. I have the reciprocal approach to houses; left to me we would still be living in the house we had years ago, and would only have moved when I felt constrained by garage space. Now that we are in our present house, I enjoy living here almost as much as she does.

She's not at all bothered that other women may take an interest when I'm driving them. If I were so inclined having a Ferrari wouldn't make any difference. Anyway these cars mainly attract men. Or women with tattoos. And bad peroxide jobs. Oh, and kids.

My wife loves our 328. She drives it about 1/4 of the milage, quite often on her own. She's also driving it on tracks. I keep pushing her to get better and better lap times.

Thats the perfect relationship you can have with your Ferrari... When both loves to drive it hard on tracks.

This weekend we will go to a show and a "semi track" day for sportscars. We'll both drive it there.

Ken, my ex girlfriend loved my Ferrari. I sure as hell don't have a wife yet, but when I do, she will like Ferraris....otherwise we are obviously not compatible.

My wife likes the older F cars much more than the new ones, which, according to her, look like ambiguous, quasi-japanese cars, without the distinct personality of the older, classic italian lines. She seldom drives any of them that i have had, although she was my test driver when i first went shopping for a ferrari, cause at that time, i didn't have a drivers license.
She doesn't like big speed on the streets, and thought that alot of the hi-speed street driving (not just mine) on the Forza Mille we did a couple of years ago was ridiculous.
She does enjoy going to events, and particularly likes older funkier cars, or quirky ones. She has been supportive, in a "boys will be boys" kind of way, respects my passion for the cars, and seems to get my penchant for continually changing cars. (When i approached the subject of buying a 330gts the other day, she just started to laff). She does not like the bike, however, it frightens her, and is not a happy subject between us, entirely for the reason of safety: she said, coming home from upstate yesterday, that she watched somebody in a suburu switch lanes without signaling, for no apparent reason, and go directly into the path of a bike that was doing all the right things, clear day, no hazards, etc. A crash was apparently avoided only because the bike driver was astute, and the car driver was totally obli. I know there are a million stories like that, but it unnerves her, and doesn't make me feel good either, cause i have been careful so far, and am taking it easy, but, as she says, it ain't you, babe, that i'm worried about.

Man, with all the give and take you guys have with the wife over the Ferrari, I'm so glad I got mine before I head down the married life (or at least a serious relationship). No hassles here (yet). :-)

Just remind her that it's more fun to check her oil than the car's. That should smooth things over............

My wife knows my Lotus is her competition for time, money and attention. She calls it a 'wretched little car' and has been in it ONCE in her life. She said it was too loud, too low, smelled funny....I thought she was describing herself!

...because the older the car gets it still looks young, the older they get they start to wrinkle and there is no good body shop out there to fix that!
:-)
politically incorrect!

My wife really likes my Ferrari, a black 328. She has always liked except for the time when we were on our way to a FCA June event at Rockingham, NC. The AC was not doing its job so we drove with the windows open. It was stifling. My wife was wearing a good pair of earings. An insect collided with her outside mirror and was deflected to her and landed on her ear. She grabbed at it and tossed it out. Along with the insect went an earing.

My wife tells me in private that she loves the 328. She loves to look at it when the garage door opens. She loves to ride in it. But, when we are aound others, she suddenly hates it. When someone else brings it up, she rolls her eyes and looks disgusted.

Since I'm only 24, my girlfriend loves the car, but hates when I drive it without her. She is worried about others girls hitting on me because of the car.

My girlfriend loves the Ferraris. We both work on them together, wash them together, and go out and drive them together. She was with me when I purchased both of them and we both drove them across the country together. We have had a blast with them. She also reads FC most of the time when I am reading it. It is a Big part of our lives.

Oh, you'll get plenty of girlfriends who want a ride for life. But once they realize all the cash flows towards the car......that's when the problems start.

Ferrari's their competition for attention and money. They think the more you spend on the F-car the less you have for her.

I've been told by relatives and friends who knows my passion for Ferraris that, after getting my 360, I don't have a chance in hxll to get a girlfriend or wife now. :-)

My wife is just the opposite. We don't own our own house yet and when I came into some money the decision was to buy a Ferrari or put a nice down payment on a house. Without hesitation my wife said "Buy the Ferrari, once we buy a house we'll never get one, so might as well buy the Ferrari now!" I love her for that! She is into cars just as much as I am, although she leans towards the "Rice".

I wouldn't say my girlfriend hates my Ferrari, she is more indifferent towards it. She could care less if I had it or not...

Well...who or what is getting all the attention? A CAR....and some women think you may go out and attract other women with it.
Its great being a man isnt it? :-)For women who are not into cars they see you diverting attention away from them.

Why do our wife's and girlfriend's hate our Ferrari's so much? Everyone I talk to has admitted that they lie about the purchase price of the car and the amount of maintenance. I know one person who had a timing belt break on his TR and told his wife that the repair would be covered under the warranty. He paid $26K for the repair and never told his wife that it cost them a single penny. My wife even admitted that she would have preferred that I slept with another woman than purchase a Ferrari. That is how much she hates my Ferrari. So why is it that our Ferrari's are hated so much?
