I would agree that if some1 will pay you $40k for an 85 308, sell it immediately and buy a nice black 1 for under $30k & put $10k in your pocket. I have to repaint my 512TR road car, The track is not good for paint jobs, Thinking about repainting her a nice blue |

Yellow, yellow, yellow!!!!!! Sorry I know its supposedly THE F colour but personally it makes me think, oh dear, not ANOTHER red F car". Silver in Euro is a big joke at the mo, its thought of as the dealers colour, nice n safe, lacking in imagination but SAFE. Like white, silver is one of the easiest colours to keep clean though. Black is just a when it comes to trying to keep the damn thing lookin nice and scratch free, having said that it looks the best when 'absolutely' unmarked (rare). I wouldn't CHANGE the colour of a vehicle though and personally wouldn't even consider buying one that had been (unless it was so dirt cheap it released plenty of funds to get it returned to its original colour), but there are many out there who wouldn't bother about that, so go for it. |

My 1981 BB had previous crash damage, and the typical red over black color scheme, which I don't care for, so I stripped it bare and it is now all red, and I love it. The point is, if you like your car, paint it to your satisfaction. |

As far as a color change, I was always the purist and used to think it should be painted original color even though I do not plan to subject my future GTB to be judged at a concours event. Now, I feel opposite. I love Giallo Fly on a GTB and will probably paint my car this color if I do not find one that was originally yellow. Peter(Pjm), go for what you like. Even a purist knows paint is not permanent, and the original color can easily be brought back, if need be for whatever reason! just my 2 cents...good luck Anthony

Robert, your posting seems to be a refreshing bit of honesty. I'm sure that the flames will soon commence. Imagine even insinuating that the metal on a Ferrari could actually be painted just like the metal on any other car. Heresy! Don't forget to tell everyone how they use SPECIAL Ferrari masking tape and imported Italian brown paper to mask off a Ferrari when painting it. Ordinary body shop tape and paper simply will not do the job. Of course I jest. But the real world car enthusiast and Ferrari owner that actually drives his car can certainly find a decent paint shop for a lot less money than is often quoted. Unless you own a trailer queen that only rides to car shows, why would anyone want a more expensive paint job on a driven car that is subject to the dents and dings of the real world? |

Robert...I need a 1/4-panel refinished on mine (you know, the one behind the driver's door - lower panel with Pininfarina emblem). Can you and your shop do this? If so, give me a call or shoot me an e-mail. Thanks! |

I have a silver 308, IMO it does nothing for the car. I was going to do red, but everybody has red. So I am going yellow. I paint Hi-end cars for a living. Our shop does from minor dings & dents to major collision repair and repaints. Now I know I will be whipped for saying this but we charge no more for painting a Ferrari than we do for a Mercedes or Jag or Corvette. We use high quality finishes and we disassemble chrome, bumpers, emblems ect. The final finish has hours spent color sanding and buffing for a brilliant finish. I just finished a old Cobra...you know the one, the 2 seater kind with the BB, sidepipes, knockoffs...hi dollar piece...no more to paint than a vette. Now don't get me wrong there is some bad shops out there...most of them are dealerships and franchises...but some of the independent shops can give you a nice finish at a resonable price. Now if they give you some super outrageous price and tell you it takes special paint and a certain bodyman and painter they are feeding you a line...go to another shop, check some of thier jobs out...they should be more than happy to turn you on to some of the work they had completed. Oh by the way the average repaint..hi-end, no bodywork and same color and no paint strip starts at 1500.00. The average out the door job...minor dents& dings...bug rash etc. about 2500.00.... |

OOOOOoooooooooooooooooo I forgive but never forget (wink) Red is popular but I strongly believe in getting the color you want. I love yellow - and think it shows off the Ferrari lines....but the silver 360 I saw looked great too. Get the color you dream of and be happy! and if it is yellow - all the better! xo Nika www.racerchicks.com |

I specifically went for a non-red car, mainly because red cars bring the wrong attention (speeding tickets). Grey is the best, it looks great clean or dirty and it brings little to no attention on the highway...kinda blends into the color or the road. It's always nice to be just a little different and I very rarley see myself coming from the other direction...even at Ferrari events. Of course these comments are for my car only, you can paint your car any color you want. |

How's yellow fair compared to red in the resale catagory? I like red and yellow. Yellow looks especially nice on the B. But then again, theres nothing like a red ferrari. Decisions, decisions. |

I gotta tell you as George just said that resale red is the way to go for sure when selling it, but if the car is satisfying to you in the orig. color I think you are far ahead in keeping it orig.. Especially when it comes to changing the color and getting all the nooks and crannies when you spray it. But if you are willing to go for it because you like the red then go for it. A purist may walk away if you are selling it but then there are a lot of others that want red no matter what color it was before. |

Thanks Magoo, now you've screwed me up on my decisions. The car is silver now on red/black. The car is originally grigo ferro which is a dark grey metallic color. I do get complements on the silver color and I think the grey is nice too. Im trying to satisfy myself as well as the market for resale purposes. I dont have a specific date of when I will sell and move on but Im thinking I wont keep it forever either. I figured if I was repainting it why not cater to the majority if red is what people want? Am I out to lunch on my thinking? You hear this "off color" comment at times and it gets me thinking. |

I think the value is the same when it comes to red black or yellow. I would prefer red because black is a pain to keep clean and looking scratch free. My 308 is silver and has tired paint. Im planning on a repaint this winter perhaps and think going to red or yellow will only improve the value because of its current color. You have my blessing too. |

I never really understood how a car could be properly painted (or repainted) without removing virtually everything, ie "body off", even though i guess for assembly line cars, the bodies get painted at some stage of assembly. Is it simply a question of degree, from Earl Schieb (sp) to Junior's 64k paint job, or are there certain standard gradations to a good/better/best process (apart from how the paint itself may be applied and dried). Not sure this is a coherent question, but what the hell... |

Do whatever you want to the car and enjoy it. You will have a hard time selling the car for any amount during these times anyway so enjoy the car and paint it any color you desire. You have my blessing. |

Hmmmmmmmm an accident damaged '85 308 at $40K? If you can get that, my suggestion is sell it immediatly to whomever is offering that. Seems excellent '85 QV's can be bought in mid to low 30's. Neverthelss, a color change may hurt the value to a purest but if the repaint is really of a top quality I dont think it would really hurt. Top quality however is expensive. You have to paint the door jambs and everywhere it was originally red. Black is also the hardest color to do properly. I would expect a true top notch paint job to run you at least $8K and more if it needs body work. |

It was damaged in a spin in the Sierra's of California. The car is in good condition and valued at around $40+K......hmmmm highly unlikely now. One rule to follow....never buy a car for investment purposes...if it's investment you want, buy stocks. A car is the extension of your personality, and never build a car for the approval of others....if you like black, then paint it black, don't look for approval, you won't get it.

I have a 85' 308. It was damaged in a spin in the Sierra's of California. I have to repaint the entire car. It is currently Red (Rosa Corsa - Sp?) with a tan interior, but I've always wanted a black 308. What do some of you think about that? What will it do to the value of the car? The car is in good condition and valued at around $40+K. |
