On Monday, I'll check if any spare jet brakes are laying around the hanger. :-)

Martin, how about $20k for ceramic brakes :-) Maybe Michael can steal some brakes off a Gulfstream jet for me from the airport LOL

Thanks guys, its odd but having such lousy brakes on the 512TR taught me not to rely on them & I started going faster :-)

William,

Of the brakes you listed Brembo and Alcon are superior to Wilwoods in quality, design, and maintenance. I personally think the Brembo's are better than the Alcon's but that is just my opinion.

The only other brake system that compares to Brembo and Alcon is the ones made by AP Racing. The big advantage that the Grand Am and ALSM racers talk about is the Brembo's maintenance. The AP and Alcon brakes have to be rebuilt every season, granted they are being used on full bore endurance racers in Grand Am and ALMS (Porsche 911 GT3R's, C5R Corvettes, LMP's etc). The Wilwoods will give you the same performance but they routinely need to be rebuilt more frequently. I have a friend who has a SCCA GT1 Viper that was originally a Oreca car from France that competed at LeMans. He hated the brakes and went to AP brakes imediately.

The braking system you just bought from Brembo fits somewhere, about half way, in between your stock brakes on a normal 355 to the $12,000 kit you mentioned that is used on the F40LM, 333SP's and the 355 Challenge cars. I can tell you from experience since I had the F50/F40 Brembo kit on my street 355, that the Challenge brakes are a definite step up to the big leagues. The stopping distance may only be 25-30% improvement over the F40/F50 brakes (if that) but they will not fade at all.

I ran my Challenge car hard for nearly 50 minutes during a Trackmasters event last fall and the brakes never lost any performance. I have had some minor brake loss with the other kit at about 45 minutes (nothing major just the pedal get a bit spongy).

The other difference between your current Brembo kit and the upgraded one is that you need to bleed the brakes much more frequently on the F40Lm kit. I usually bleed them at least once a day, sometimes two depending on how hard the brakes have been used. And of course the Challenge Series racers bleed them after every session.

If you are not doing endurance racing or long stints on the track (45+ minutes it may not be worth the extra money). The main advantage of the F40LM/333 kit is repeated hard use over long periods of time (2-3 hours).

Stop by and talk to me at the Glen I will be happy to give you more infomation on the different Brembo brake options.

Regards,

Jon P. Kofod

William, my F40 just finished spending 4 weeks with Brembo High Performance Division, the quality of the work is first class.

I suggest you cal Eric Dahl at Brembo, 714.641.5831.

The upcoming FORZA magazine is doing a feature on Brembo brakes and the work they did on my F40.

Good luck, (I have seen you drive, I never noticed you using the brakes!)

Next weekend I'll b checking out the $7500 Brembo F40 kit on my 512TR, Brembo says they have an even wilder upgrade to F40LM specs for $12k.
A friend of mine told me I should check out Wilwoods but the racer who is doing the bodywork on my race car says Brembo is much better than Willwood & Alcons r the most expensive & possibly the best.
So now I'm thoroughly confused. Does anybody know the truth behind brake systems ? Thanks
