Adam, I use a product call killnote that kills the loaded dll for notes which allows me to start notes up without rebooting. Dave, most of my projects have been for Domino. Most people are trying to get away from having to rely on the Notes client and want everything built for the browser. My wife and I own our own company, MAD Technology Services LLC. Most of our work has been with clients such as McKinsey, PwC, Lotus, IBM, Bristol-Myers Squibb and a ton of others. We do a fair amount of traveling for work and even had a neat project for 1 month in Torino. Starting to look at branching out into something different...maybe Websphere, since IBM has it in it's mind to get rid of Notes over the next few years. |

Adam, Where did you deploy Documentum? Was it pre-98, 98, or 4i? Currently working in both 98 and 4i, but mainly 4i. Work in almost all the tools of 4i. Have been using Documentum, FileNET, and the companies they bought since 1991. Extensive experience also in the Internet, e-commerce, databases, and networks. If I do not stay at CinFin, some people are trying to convince me to go to Saudi Arbia (not for sure I like the womans' clothing there, but the money is very nice), Germany, a nuclear power plant, and BP in Houston. Maybe I can find the time soon to enjoy my places in Park City and Santa Fe some more. Besides work, I enjoy exploring new areas, resturants, photography, women, outdoors, etc. Maybe Ferrera needs a new method of managing their engineering information? ) |

Dave / David; Good to see other consultants in the FC Family. I spent a fair amount of time with Notes, and have deployed Documentum before. I have also used Vignette for some big publishing type sites such as the new Wall St Journal's WSJ.com site. I specialize in large and complex e-buisness projects for Media & Entertainment, Industrial, and Automotive Clients. Having spent time in 3 of the big 5 ( not AA though ) and now IBM, I have seen it from pre-ERP day's to now post Internet boom day's. I think the whole business is changing and I think the WSJ.com project will probably be the last Big consumer service site for a long time. Most of the business is all B-B now. BTW David, have seen a cool little tool called ZapNotes before that avoids a full reboot of your machine if Notes Dies. |

I like Notes/Domino, but this uses a different product. The two main Document/Knowledgement management Programs are Documentum and FileNET. Both are more powerful in this area than Notes/Domino, but the software for a typical installation costs $750,000.00+. Currently working in Documentum in two areas. I bounce back and forth to whereever the fires are. I am just a consultant who they are trying to convience to become an employee. I am an employee of Wapinski's, Inc. (my corp) who is contracted to Midcom in Silcon Valley, CA who is contracted to Tech Soft in Cincinnati who is contracted to CinFin. That is why I have been living in hotels mainly in Cincinnati since Nov. The first Documentum area is to put on line all the manuals, forms, procedures, etc. to underwrite insurance policies in 30+ states. Documentum is very good at keeping versioning and can translate into different languages. The second area is Documentum Web Publisher. It automates electronic work flows not just for the web, but also approval processes. Cincinnati Financial/Cincinnati Insurance Companies/Cincinnati Investment Companies also uses DocuCorp Mobius running on an IBM mainframe. It stores scanned in images of all the paperwork for 10,000,000+ insurance policies. Both Documentum and FileNET are heavily used by governments, drug companies, financial companies, oil companies, casinos, etc. If you gamble in Las Vegas, information on your gambling is probably being tracked by either FileNET or Documentum. The Las Vegas Italian Casino, Bel... - however it is spelled, when it first opened, they interviewed, selected, hired, did all the paperwork, etc. for 5,000 people in 60 calander days using FileNET. This is one of my specialities - it is normally fun to do. Requires a knowledge of many computer things, business practicies, management, and people. I have always been interested in how we communicate, be it computers, films, photography, etc. What kind of projects do you work on? Have a great one, Dave Wapinski

Dave...are you doing Lotus Notes/Domino work? Your project sounds familiar to just about every project I work on....minus the sticky note part. |

Two of my specialities are knowledge/document management systems and electronic work flows. I am currently working on a work flow system for web sites where future pages are electronically routed to the appropiate department/person (legal, marketing, accounting, corporate communications, etc) for comments, then rewritten and automatically posted onto the web sites. This requires electronic annotiations (sticky notes, arrows, etc). This morning when I went to their web site to see which annotiations I should program into the user interface screens, I had to chuckle about one of their choices of cars: http://www.imarkup.com/websticky/Themes.asp?StartNum=0 Dave Wapinski |
