Your right bret just 80-82....all the GTS/Bi 2-valve injected versions. However I have heard of a few of the last carbed versions having them as well.

They only put in these for a couple years if I remember correctly. None of the QVs have them and I don't think that many of the carbed cars do either. This is where I'm unsure. I think it was just like 80-82 that they put in these lower speedos, but I could be wrong.

I think they stopped putting 80mph speedos in 82. I have an 83qv and it has a 180 speedo. I am sure the qv speedos don't stop at 80.

You can send your 85mph speedometer to Palo Alto speedometer in Calif. and they can change it to a 180 reading.

One of the stupider things our government has done. I'm glad we're 'allowed' to have normal speedos again.

During the 55 mph era all cars were mandated by Federal law to have 85 mph max speedos - my '82 GTSi has one....

John you are right they do have it for some sort of EPA thing I think....mostly this is the 2-valve GTB/Si's of the early '80's. Call Trutland they have replacement ones.

hello all,
i am now looking for a ferrari probably a 308 after having several
porsches. have been seeing several mid-80s cars, all with the 80mph
speedos. is it difficult to obtain and replace with a speedo with
higher speed indications?
thanks, john
