If I were to let a shop do anything to my car,
I would sure use a shop that has done installs on Ferrari's before, rather that some kid guessing as he cuts wires and tears up your car...
BTW, I've done this myself on my cars and it was no big deal, so you guess is as good as mine as where there head is at.

Oh and btw: The shop told me, they need to order a special version of the 'thingy' that opens/closes the doors (probably a solenoid, but what do I know). He said the regular one would be too big to fit into the door panel anyway. True or false?

It sounded reasonable, but then again it also sounded like an extra $ 200. So I figured I run this by you guys who have already been there/done that.

Thanks for all the pointers. I might give it a try myself now.

In defense of the shop, they did put the Viper systems and a new stereo so far. I have the feeling the issue is money (isn't it always!): His Viper prices are fixed and include the labour. So he probably thinks there is a LOT more labour involved in dealing with a Ferrari. Just a guess. Anyway, many thanks for the helping pointers.

Hans, Mark is correct it is easy access to remove the panels. Obviously this guy is guessing or as previously said he doesn't want to work on your car. Maybe he is afraid of it being a Ferrari and being strange to him.

Glad someone else chimed in. The 'GT4 door panels have hidden screws behind a trim piece, that isn't obvious how to get off! Apparently the GTB/S panels are even easier.

I think the shop you're dealing with is trying to tell you the don't want to work on your car. To get the panels off, you take 3 screws out of the arm rest then 2 or 3 across the bottom of the panel then lift up and pull it off. The kill switch is equally easy. There is a wiring diagram in your manual, find the wire the instruction tell you to, probably the one from the ignition switch to the ignition relay, cut it and slice in your timer. you NEED a new shop.

Oops. Forgot original topic. Sounds like your guy may not be a specialist. These cars aren't that complicated at all, but it helps to have someone who has been there/done that. When I took my door panels off, I had not a clue. Rob Garven gave me the detailed instructions. It's real easy, but you could screw it up if you don't know the 'secret combination'. P.S. - I'm not offering instructions on your GTS panels, as they could have some minor differences from mine. Best find out from someone who has removed GTS panels.

(Blush) Gee, thanks. It was the original color combo, but the black is a re-spray in a glossier paint than original. The red is original, but after 27 years is very thin on the edges.

I'm starting to get the feeling that you might be right, my guy (who is really nice btw) might not know what he is doing.

He already refused to put in the kill switch from Viper for the engine (once the alarm goes off and you still drive away after about 30 seconds the engine is killed, worked great on my previous Ford). He said, that wouldn't be good for a Ferrari. True or false?

On a separate note: Hans I love that color on your car. Stock or paint shop?

There aren't any clips on a 'GT4. (Well, except for some ball-and-socket type holding some trim on. But these shouldn't give a problem.) The GTB/S cars are probably similar. I suspect that the guy doesn't know what he is doing.

I'm trying to have a viper remote control door lock and new speakers installed in my 84 308 GTS. The Viper installation mechanic told me, he can't work on the doors as they are internally held together with some clips, which will break once he starts disassembling the doors. He would only work on those if I'd provide replacement clips first.

So is this a) true, is there b) a work around or c) where do I get these clips?

I have seen here other people talking about replacing their speakers etc, so I assume there is a way around this. Any help is greatly appreciated.
