Thanks Bill,i saw an ad in a british mag (classic & sports car?)with the black F40 for sale, it also had a leather interior and that car looked awesome in black imho.there was a pic posted here not to long ago of the light blue F50.i don't recall the light blue car in Forza but i do remember a dark blue one in the mag with a matching helmet on the roof, was it the issue with the F50 GT1?

the sultan had at least a yellow and black f40 that has appeared in pics over the years. i am aware of at least 1 light metallic blue mythos that i have seen pics of.

the skyblue f50 appeared in forza several years back. i will try to find a pic of it.

Now that the F40 is sold they've taken the description of their site. It's a very controversial car due to the 'street' interior and color. There is a red stripe around the car. Not for everyone, but certainly different.

I'm not too wild about that F40. Titainium would show off the lines better. TR seats? Aftermarket prefab dash? Who cares about the previous owner? The whole thing is just way off.

Bill,

That looks like a repaint. There is a red line all the way around as well. The interior is a very non-f40 inside. Radio and all.

That's the best looking F40 I've ever seen. It is kinda small though. I think the Geiko Gehko would like it.

The Sultan of Brunei had a non-red F40. Here's a picture and a link:

288 GTO's and F40's both only came in red. "You can have any color you want, as long as its red." The F50 was the first super-car Ferrari to have a color choice.

The Norwood 288 conversions that I have seen are the same length as the original...
Stretched frame to accommodate the engine sitting the same as the original.
The two I have seen were much more wicked in the motor department than the original...
larger displacement than the original 2.8liter,
and much more horsepower.
This is one of the few conversions that I wouldn't mind owning.

Actually David, I'm pretty sure the width of the car is the same as the real 288GTO, but you are right about the GTO being 4 inches longer.*****************
"Real GTO's were extended about 4 inches longer and 4 inches wider from the passenger compartment back. That black car is a very close copy but not quite."

Do these conversions ever run as well as the originals? I have seen turbo 308's that looked great...did a few really hot laps...and broke.

there was a 288 gto in houston for a long while that was a gunmetal grey. it was owned by mexican citizen and kept at ferrari of houston. i am almost positive that foh had it painted for the customer as they did for the sky blue f50 for mark rand.

Doesn't Sammy Hagar drive a black 288GTO in the "I can't drive 55" video? Maybe it's a Boxer. 'Have not seen in 12+ years. Anyway, rumor has it that he met Van Halen while getting his Ferrari serviced. Eddie was into Lambos.

This car is a 308 conversion set up w/a twin turbo.. I saw it at Michael Sheehan's web site for sale....The interior was a replicated as well... Loose the wing and that would be a hot car..

The tell tale cosmetic difference for 308/288 conversions is the fact that the wheelbase and rear wheel track on the real 288s were extended about 4 inches longer and 4 inches wider from the passenger compartment back. That black car is a very close copy but not quite.

Hey, was Mel Spillman ever a member of this board?

The only BLACK 288 GTO that have seen was custom built on 308 chassis for DOOM/Quake creator John Carmak. The project took about a year & built by Bob Norwood in Dallas,TX. The car was the first to have body panels made of carbon fiber. Very impressive ride I must say.

I have seen Spillman's car over at Mike's Shop and the work on the car was meticulous, excellent paint and craftsmanship. I don't think Ferrari ever produced a black 288 GTO

The batmobile there was on here a couple months ago when someone brought it up. If they didn't want ridiculous amounts of money for it, it would make a hell of a track car. Rip off the spoiler and put something more tasteful if you absolutely needed more downforce.

That was one of Mel Spillman's cars. He stole from the estates of dead people to fuel his Ferrari habit. Mike Sheehan brokered many of his cars after he got busted.

Craig, that looks like it might be one of the "evoluzione" cars that eventually were used to develop the F40. Would be nice if we could see the front end, then we'd know for sure.

I have seen a picture of a black 288 with a spoiler on the back. I was curious if any of you know anything about this car...is it a re-bodied 308?
