Was able to get mine off with US hex drive - not the slickest fit but it worked with no damage.

John. I will resume work on the console later this week. I don't know about the a/c switch. I have, however tried to get the know off the blower switch. It seems to me that it should just come off by prying upward leaving the shaft showing. It won't come off with the little pressure that I am willing to apply however. One of the posts referred to a hex nut having to be removed. Will keep you posted.

Perhaps some others can help here!!!

Russ, now that you have it apart, are there light bulbs exposed? One of those switches on my car doesn't illuminate at night and I'm wondering how hard it's going to be to change the bulb. Is the bulb inside the switch itself so I can just remove the switch?

Hey Russ - What I really need to get to is one of the AC/Heat controllers (pass side) - can you tell me if I have to pull the console or does that piece just pop out???? Thanks for the help! And congrats on finally getting yours out - now take a deep breath - nothing got screwed up or broken:-)

John. Finally got the console out on my '88 328. Here's how.
1. Lifted ashtray out and took out the two screws.

2. Took out the rear switches. Put a thin putty knife in the center of each switch on the side and pried up gently. Did the same for the other side. As soon as I had the switch up far enough I gently lifted it up with my fingers with a slight back and forth.

3. The switch then can be pulled up but is restrained by the plug part (male fixture)that is at the end of the wires. After some experimenting I found that the two pieces just pull apart with some effort. On two of the switches I held the male part gently in the grip of some large pliers and pulled up with the other part. The wires and switches are color coded with a colored dot on each switch matching the color of the male fixture.

4. Under the middle two switch openings are two small screws which when taken out allow the console to lift up. It is still restrained by the other switches however.

Hope this helps.

Russ,

I'm in the same boat as you! I released all the screws around the ashtray and tried to pry up but - a little to much force for me! I looked at the schematics and it would appear that the console would need to slide "back" not forward?? When I tried to pry the four console block up mine got a small crack in it -- your's popped out?

If there is anyone out there that has done this please help before we tear something up and have to start praying to the Ferrari God!!

Making progress but. Once you pry up the four back switches and look below them you can see the two screws which must be taken out before the console can finally be removed. However I can't figure out how to get the switches removed from the fixture that contains the wires. In other words how do you unplug the switches from the wire bundles so that they do not impede removal of the console. Perhaps I am just not pulling hard enough but I am in fear of breaking a switch and the replacement cost. Any ideas.

Based on some clues from other posts I uses a thin blade putty knife to pry up the switches at the rear and at looking through them to the bottom of the console are two screws which I believe have to be taken out to get the console out. Will try that this morning.

Russ,

Be careful when you push it forward, I damaged my fan switch that way.

I am pretty sure it has to slip forward to release the two clips that retain the rear of it. I know the 308 works that way.

I took out the two screws in the ashtray and also the two screws in the glove box between the seats. I still can't get the center console cover out. It lifts up where the ashetray was but the back stays down. One thread said to push it forward and it would come out. This will require more force than I am willing to apply until I am certain that that is how to get it out. Can anyone help?
