Hindsight is 20/20, I think Bowling Stocks were hot in the 70s, AMF? etc,Wal Mart was a joke and K MArt was king, you could buy an acre of land near the strip in Vegas for $20,000 and sell it for $10,000,000 today, I would rather of had the pleasure of driving and owning a rare car for 20 years, as the saying goes you can't take it with you. |

Rob, that leaves you with $3,500. Where did you say you will park them all? |

Rob, sorry I didn't read your entire post - my bad. Would like to be in both positions -$40k and have owned those great cars for the past 26 years or have the 37 mil now and retire to a villa and start a great car collection! Regards John |

The same money would have bought you a 308GTB Fiberglass for $ 25,000 plus maybe a used early 308GT4 for another $15,000. Today both are worth nothing more than the $40K you had invested in the first place. You might have put that money into a state of the art TELEX machine, because that was the wave of the future. Of one of those copy machines that used that good sniffing toner stuff. aaaahhhhrrrggggggg |

$40,000 equals about $127,000 in 2001. I wonder what the return would have been if the money was put into the market for the past 26 years. |

To bad I wasn't even born back then But $ 40k in 1976 would have been a lot more then $40k now I guess. I don't know for sure but I bet wages were way lower then nowadays. But still, would have been a real nice investment If I could only look into the future |

From the December 1976 Road and Track for $40k you could buy a... 1967 275 GTB Alloy $17,750 1956 410 SA $14,500 1968 Shelby GT 500 $5,500 All now worth maybe $950,000 They also had 1967 Ford MK IV # J-3 for $100,000 obo. However, Wal-Mart was selling split adjusted for 6 cents a share. That's not even couting dividends over the years. $40,000 in Wal-Mart back then would now be worth $37,000,000. |
