Ernie - Martin has some 30mm spacers on his 348ts. He's really happy with them and it does look very nice. If you get in touch with him, he can put you in touch with his contacts over at Koenig. I think it would be somewhat cost prohibitive to put on Speciale transaxles aftermarket. I believe the spacers are in the $500-600 range (I could be off a bit on the price)... I know there was an earlier post about this topic. |

Thats kinda what I figured. How difficult would it be to get that same set up for an earlier model like mine? Or do the spacers work just fine? |

Ernie, From my unmderstanding, that car has the speciale rear axle; same track as the latter 348's. |

Speaking of performance. The rear had the track widened to help fix the problem of spinning out, right. Was this done with spacers, or did they actually widen the rear suspension? |

Byron, not many ferrari owners know about the true performance of a 348 challenge car, you are in a very lucky position. It is one of the best driving ferrari. Enjoy it in good health. |

Roel, thanks for the compliment! Steve and Chris - those colors on your 348's are very nice.... and very unique, too! The lighting is a bit off in the pictures of my car... the car is Rosso Corsa... here is another shot that might be more convincing... taken just last weekend.

Oh, I totally forgot to mention, you both have great looking cars guys Love that blue color on a 348. And to stick to the original post, Byron, your car is one of the most stunning 348's i've seen here sofar, awesome aggresive look. Btw, is that Rosso corsa though? looks a bit off, could be the light/camera (or me). |

Is it just me or can anyone tell the difference in color between your cars? hehe. Maybe it's the sun, or lack of it on Steve's picture, can't tell really.

Congratulations on your acquisition. I too am a new owner. I purchased a blu chiro 348ts. I was wondering if any 348 owners could tell me if the cars originally came with an Owners Manual AND a Technical Manual, or are they one in the same?

Bart - I loved driving the NSX... maybe that's why I wanted to stay close to mid-engine cars! The car handled really well in the canyons but suffered from a bit of understeer on surface roads. I didn't get any track time with that car, but I'm sure I would have beat the times I posted with my M3. Tillman, no worries... I'm just glad that this thread has lasted so long!... wait...you're out in the D/FW area?.. Had I known...I would have driven out to check out your car... I worked out in the Fort Worth area for 5 months this year... stayed out in N. Dallas area... loved it! Racer001 .. when the car finally arrives to California, I'm sure I will have plenty of opportunity to test it out, dyno it, etc... until then, I'll just have to sit patiently and eagerly... Too bad I can't have it here in time for the So Cal drive on Nov 24th, Gene! By the way, anyone know of a place I can get good pricing on some nice looking floormats? |

Sorry, Byron, I don't mean to hijack your thread. That's a very nice car, and certainly not understated! Enjoy. Raleigh, I _really_ like this car. I haven't had any problems with it, and I've put almost 1000 miles on it so far. It doesn't leak any oil, makes all the right sounds, and looks great in that color. Dan obviously spent a great deal of time and money to make the car right, and I'm the beneficiary of that effort. All in all, I'm happy with the purchase. |

Don't worry too much about that. You're local to D/FW, come out to our next event and get to know the people. You'll enjoy yourself.

What is it with women and Diablo's? My wife loves the Lambo, but thinks the Fcar is just ok. She use to think the only good ones were the F50, F40, and TR, but now she is warming up to the 360. I guess Lambo's are more of a female car. Byron, I went and drove an 02 996. It was extremely fun. The dealer asked when I want to pick it up, and I told him that I have to test drive a 348 first. He looked at me like "drats, Ferrari has won again." You think that's what goes through a Porsche dealer's head? |

Byron... I'm serious too... It's not like I'll have nine lives. Why not get an Fcar by 30? Alas, school costs money, rent costs money, and everything else, yes, even turning the lights on, costs money. Something I don't have... I've worked out a 'plan' to be able to afford what ever the new mid mounted V8/V10 Fcar will be out by 2010-2013... Assuming they stay in the same price range... However... the way I see it, when I'm thirty years young, I'll most likely have the new Maser, a 'classic' Fcar (348,F355,Modena etc., maybe a V12), a daily driver Alfa (they might return in 2006), and a Ducati superbike for kicks. ...or I can just do the NSX/348 thing like everybody else... ;) -------------------------- Have you weighted your street legal Challenge 348 yet? Dyno? Again, congrats on such a lovely car... |

Luuk, you're right... I'm still smiling!! Racer 001, more power to ya if you pull that off! Why not compromise and get both by 28? (By the way, I treated myself to my NSX at 24... and now my 348 at 26) Raleigh, I was actually looking at getting a 996 prior to this as well - I had a friend who had experience owning and racing porsches. He actually cautioned me against '97 996 coupes and '99 cabriolets. It seems that for those first years of production, there were hit-or-miss lemons out there for those cars for some reason - the consensus was that the air-cooled 95/98 993's were much better cars. Well... Martin, the only reason I "lurked" was to get a good feel of the dynamics of the board before I posted anything. Plus, I felt I couln't fully appreciate that fervor (or in your words, the infection) until owning one. And now I know... Lucky I don't have a wife yet, eh? (No one to complain about the bills, right?)

Martin, I actually did this with the help of another 348 owner (C. Fung from the "other" Ferrari List) last year, and actually posted some pics on this list. Maybe Rob still has this in his archive? In short, I built a small wooden cradle with rollers (home depot), unbolted most bolts in the subframe, diconnected everything that needed disconnecting, removed bumper, lowered car on cradle, fully diconnect subframe, jack car up ~15 inches, rotate cradle 90 degrees, voila!! Full access of front engine to replace belt. total of ~3 days of work at home in my garage!!

You can drool on my car anytime as can everybody else. If you are here in Miami stop by and I will give you a ride and some basic instructions into the 348. BTW the AC in the 308/328 is not the greatest. You may want to look at the 348s when you need AC. For some reason the AC on the 308 Fiberglass car I bought works great. Talked to a major collector yesterday and he said the AC on those was different for some reason than on later 308s. I guess that would be a whole new topic. Further, if you love Ferrari you do belong. Byron was a lurker too and should have posted way earlier than just now, since he became an owner. |

Thanks. I know that comparing a new 996 to a ten year old 348 is apples to oranges. I am looking for my first exotic and I will drive it everyday. I guess I'm not like other first time Fcar buyers. Most everyone tells me to get a 328 or 308 to start. The 348 just sounds great and looks great as well. AC is a must since I am in Fort Worth, TX and 110 in the summer and no AC is literarlly hell. As far as the infection goes, my wife yells at me constantly as I spend my days off at FoD and other Porsche and Ferrari dealers. I am on ebay nonstop looking for a good car. All my friends call me when they see a Ferrari to ask what model and tell me about how seeing it chaged their day. I have never even driven one. I have only gone for one ride in a 2002 fly yellow 360 Spyder F1. I want to be apart of the Fcar community more, but I really don't belong. I don't know of to many Fcar owners that want their car drooled on by some 25 year old. I do thank everyone for their advice. Raleigh |

Rayleigh, I've said it before on this list and I'll say it again: The 348 is actually pretty reliable (minus some electrical problems), and can be worked on easily and inexpensively if you know how to turn a wrench... I can only speak for myself, but my car has had only minor electrical problems, the mechanics are very solid, if you drive it on a regular basis, and perform the routine maintenance. Valve adjustments are easy, and it is possible to do the belts (engine out) without lift. |

Raleigh, I think you are about right on with the service on the 348. Can not tell you much about the 996 except that a friend of mine has had the clutch done twice already and uses tires like a madman. Surely it will be a little less, especially that you are talking a new car vs a 10 year old car. Just with the age you have some more service and preventive service. There is however a difference in ownership of both cars. A Ferrari creats a bond that can not be broken. Like Byron said, I always compare it to AIDS. Once you contract it you have it and can only escape it by death. (not meaning to offend anybody) |

Hey Byron, congrats to your car. Love the black wheels!! I live in the SoCal area, and while my 348 is not a challenge car, it does have the challenge exhaust and the kevlar seats. You will set off a lot of car alarms with it... I live in Redondo beach... actually, some people on this list are arranging a get-together by mid January, surely you'll have your car in OC by then! |

Wow, I feel like I'm part of the family already here...haha. Yep, there is definitely a LOT more to that car than just the black speedlines, rollcage, and challenge exhaust. I've driven a few sports cars in the past (300ZX, E36 M3, NSX to name a few) and this one has soul!! Of course, this car is not concourse material... so I guess that means it's just me, my f-car, and the road! Thanks everyone for welcoming me to the board. Martin, the movie was great - dinner at Nexxt's Cafe afterwards was a real treat, too. For those of you that don't remember... the car was the 348 Challenge Car that Martin had posted on the site a while back (in September). For all the other 348 owners out there... I hope to learn lots more from all of you about this car. I know there is lots to know!! Raleigh - as far as I'm concerned, this is going to be my daily driver (of course, with all the traveling I do during the week, my daily driving really constitutes weekend driving only!! )... so we'll see. As far as price is concerned - how do you put a price on value?... Like most things are, esp. on this board, you will most definitely pay what the car is worth to you. Martin is a VERY fair and honest guy - I would DEFINITELY recommend anyone else to do business with Cavallino Motors. All things said and done, I'll be in the ~$50k range to have the car at my front door in California.

I should clerify. When I said this car I meant 348's in general. I am looking at Porsche 996's and would rather have a 348. My only concern is service. $500 annually on a Porsche and $2500 on the Ferrari I think. Plus the 996 only has to have it's oil changed once a year or every 15k miles. If I am wrong one the Ferrari service let me know. |

This one could be driven daily. It has a full functioning AC and brake pads have been changed to street pads. The race clutch is hard and has not much slip. So takes time to get used to. The brakes are fast and hard, takes also time to get used to. Suspension is harder than stock but gives a great ride. The Daytone Seats are awesome. They are more comfortable than the stock 348 seats. Just don't hold your breath for a car like this. I do not think there is another one out there. A lot of money has been spent to convert it to track use and a lot of money to convert it back to street. There are not many people that were crazy enough to do that! |

Congrats Byron! and welcome on the board. Great choice on the 348tb, I'm a big fan of those. Give us some more information on the car though! Color(s)? Year? Post some pictures ! Good to see that you've joined FerrariChat.com, no doubt you will like it here. There are some guys here with an unbelievable amount of knowledge about these cars, and lots of enthusiasts too. Anyway, enjoy the car ('m sure you will), and keep her in good shape (one piece). Met vriendelijke groet, -Roel

Hey everyone - I'm a proud first-time owner of a 348tb. In fact I just spent the weekend down in South Beach, FL, hanging out with Martin (Miami348ts). Had a blast! This is my first post, so I'll keep it short, but I just wanted to introduce myself to all of you... as Martin would put it, I've now been "infected" with this disease and will never be able to cure myself of the Ferrari passion! ;) I am in the southern california area - so for those of you in the Orange County area, let me know of any local events!! |
