Don't forget that a Daytona won the original Cannonball, and a 246 Dino won the 3rd. |

Im surprised anyone would have picked a 308 of any kind to do this type of event in. I wouldnt worry as much about reliability, just the fact that it would not be competitive. If I had been running a Cannonball type event in the early 1980's, a Porsche 911 Turbo would have to be the best bet. |

Ken...It does not have to be a race ready car, it can be a stock car, and will not be filmed on the track but on the street. |

Adam: There is a mechanic in CT. who may be able to help you out. He services a car from a long time client who raced his 308. I do not know if it was raced in the Cannonball or the US Express, but drop me a line if you are interested. FWIW, the car went cross country at 8,000 RPM (about 3,000 miles) and is still running strong today with 80K+ miles. Shows you how strong the 308 engine is. |

Back in 82' my father ran in the US Express (It took the place of the Cannonball after a few years)from NYC to CA. A film maker is doing a documentary of the 81-83 races and recently interviewed many of the racers. While they were interviewing my father, they asked if I new anyone with the following cars for some drive by shots and in car filming. A Red 308 GTB '83ish and a Black 308 GTB '83ish. They are in LA, CA however if they cannot find these cars in CA they may fly to other locations. Let me know if you can help. BTW if anyone knows of a Red 928 it would also help as that is what my father came in second in at 36hrs 40min. He loved his Ferrari's and his partner loved his Jag's but knew the P-car would make it all of the way without a problem. Adam |
