There was talk of Lotus making a comeback a few months ago. I think it's pretty unlikely though. James Hunt's brother, David owns the rights to Lotus racing. I believe BAR are planning on changing their name. People thought they might change it to Lotus but this has since been denied.
The changes to the F1 rules for next season certainly won't disadvantage Ferrari. Qualifying should be interesting.
I like Moto GP and WRC aswell. Rossi (Moto GP Champion) competed in the GB RAlly last week but didn't do very well!
I know practically nothing about NASCAR so I won't comment on it (how's about that for diplomacy?!).
As for Ford/Jaguar, I am friends with Eddie Irvine's parents so was quite dissapointed to hear that he'd been dropped by Jaguar. It's looking increasingly unlikely that he'll get a drive for next year. His years at Ferrari were great! Especially 1999 when he so nearly won the championship.

I'm sure that Ford especially can run with Ferrari IF they wanted to spend that kind of money which they certainly have. Ferrari has a 350 man F1 team and Michael is the highest paid athlete in the world. Who has more assets than Ford wordlwide? Certainly they can afford to buy every key Ferrari, Williams, BMW, etc guy out there and in time win the championship by creating a great car and crippling the Ferrari team and others. Maybe they just need to be out there on a budget to sell more Jags on Monday. Business is funny. Beats me. What I would give to see Senna and Michael in equivalent cars.

If Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Williams, Cosworth, Honda, Mercedes... could make a car that could even run against the Ferrari team they would. The fact is that no other racing team can come close, so they (the fans) complain about 30 sec. wins. I just hope F1 doesn't take the NASCAR approach and put limits on the cars to make it fair. Make the other teams get better. Dodge challenged the heads of stock car racing with the Super Bird in the 70's. AMG tested the limits with CART in the early 90's. I hope F1 doesn't ban Ferrari and their design because everyone else is just not good enough.

I don't care for the style of NASCAR and that banging each other for position is considered "just hard racing" but it sure is the American way. I have been to a few (under ten) of those races including Daytona, Indy, Bristol (which is considered one of the best), Talledega, Darlington, Sears Point and some really slanted short track that I do not remember the name of. One of the nice things about the series is the availability of the drivers and team owners to the fans. When was the last time anyone here got close to Schumacher or even a back marker in the F1 field? Americans identify with the blue collar nature of the guys and the "regularness" of them - chapel in the pits on Sunday AM, etc. Don't forget some great roadrace drivers like Boris Said jump into a Cup car for the The Glen and Sears Point or whatever it is called now. Yeah they get paid for it but if it really sucked I would hope Boris would walk away.

I won't stay up Saturday night until 4AM like I do for a Japanese F1 race but I don't necessarily turn it off either if nothing else is on. Just have to remember that it is a business and it is sort of like the Pro Wrestling of the racing world. The cars are pretty awesome although crude. I drove a 750 hp super modified or something that a friend owns and drives. Similar in power to a Winston cup car. Turning left or not, it was pretty brutal and exciting and I think the track was only 3/8 mile long. I can't imagine being out there with 20 or so other cars like that on such a tight track especially at night.

I used to knock the left turn boys quite a bit. I have since learned there is room for everyone and it is just different and not wrong. I still hate when they are in my face on Monday about F1 not being a race after the first turn though. Sometimes I think they have a point with 30 sec win margins. Let's not talk about team orders.

Anthony,

Just to let you know I am in NASCAR central living in Fort Worth, TX and all the #3 (now that he is dead) fans get real mad when I tell them that cars can turn right as well as left. My wife gets irritated as well when I get up at like 3 in the morning to watch the races in Europe.

Ferrari is my team of course, but do you think that Lotus will have a car next year? I've heard that rumor. Also, how do you think Jaguar will do with the new engine?

Hi Anthony, glad to have you join us. I am a big F1 fan. I have not met any of the people you guys mentioned, but I love the nuances and extremes of the sport. That, MotoGP, and WRC are the best of the lot. How can I say this.....I dont think too highly of Nascar. That was politically correct.

I love F1, but unfortunately as mentioned by TomD, there is limited coverage (at best) here in the U.S.

I was hoping for some more F1 activity in this forum as well.

Ken, can't say I'm much of a NASCAR fan, but then again I've never seen it live.
Jay, I miss Murray aswell. I've got a great picture of Murray with my wife at Monza 2001 when we were on our honeymoon. I'll see if I can find it and post it here.
Hi Will, I've met Stewart a couple of times but I never got to meet Ken Tyrell. As for factories I've been to BAR and Jordan but I wouldn't go to McLaren on principle! I've also been to Maranello a few times. My wife goes there a lot as she buys and sells F1 memorabilia (team wear, racesuits, helmets etc).
As for Max's ideas, I don't think he seriously thought any of them would get anywhere. He was just trying to scare the teams so they'd accept the less radical ideas that he really wanted to introduce. The ideas still don't go far enough. What everyone has been asking for is fairly simple: less aerodynamic grip, proper slick tyres and no gizmos. Maybe one day! Until then I'll keep watching my old race tapes.
I paid for Bernievision this year and was quite impressed with it. It looks like it hasn't bitten the dust as Bernie will be supplying the pictures for all the terrestrial feeds which can only be a good thing.

Thanks for the great welcome guys!

Welcome Anthony,

I am a major F1 fan going back to the 60's and have even hung with Stewart, Tyrell, Jordan and quite a few other unknowns here in the states. Have you toured any factories around Woking, etc?

What do you think about the absurd suggestions Max came up with. What do the UK fans think about Bernievision biting the dust?

Nascar was one of the best marketing efforts ever and seeing them on a road course can sort of be entertaining. Racing in all forms is a good thing.

Welcome Anthony, I'm in Canada and the F1 coverage we get is from the UK. Love Martin Brundle and James Allen's commentary, but I miss Murray Walker!

Anthony, just say you love NASCAR and the F1 fans will come out of the woodwork to flame you.

"with the name anthony some may be skeptical"
Just had a look. I assume you refer to Wopmobile? I assure you I am not him and I don't know him. I often post on the Forum of Tifosi-Club.com and we occasionally have problems with interlopers and trouble causers. Overall though I'd say that this one and Tifosi-Club are by far the most civilised I've seen. I have visited other F1 Forums and didn't stay there long!;)

Welcome, with the name anthony some may be skeptical ( see some recent posts) but give this site a chance and see how it works out. I think the site has a number of F-1 fans but given the limited coverage of F-1 in the USA people are not as nuts as in europe. During the season you will see many more F-1 discussions. Again welcome

I'm new here. The site was recommended by someone on the UK Ferrari Owners Club Forum, and I'm glad it was! This is a great Forum and it's very active. Every time I come back there are new things to read - I've learnt a lot!
My question is how many of you are Ferrari F1 fans? I notice that the 'Racing' Section of the Forum isn't nearly as active as this section. Is that just because it's the off season?
