Frank, the jack bag pictured is the proper jack bag for your car. The proper tool kit should be the breif case style up to about a 485xx serial number, from there to 50,000 I'd expect either. After 50,000 I'd expect to find a tri fold pouch similiar to your 328 pouch that is kept in a leather pouch. Note: the brief case style kit was used in very late Daytonas, C/4s, 365GT/4 2+2s, 400s, 365 and most 512 BBs. There were suttle differences between some of the kits so do a little home work before pulling the trigger. Steve |

Guys, The 512BBi Wrench Tool kits according to the parts manual does come as a brief case style layout. This is no longer available in that format, & if you find the wrnech set, expect to pay a few grand. The jack kit, I actually have this new old stock, it is complete & has all the items as listed on this picture, the spark plug tool is not in the photo, but I do have it. The jack kit is $1249.99 & is in perfect condition & it is specific for the 512BBi - 512BB Kurt. |

I understand how the Boxers came to the US. One of my Boxer customers in 1984 picked up Books and Parts in Switzerland for us because FoH wouldn't supply them. That Gray Market we don't know thing. FAF was a small part of the game. Just as guys like myself where when compared against the overall numbers of Boxers produced. No 1 outfit ever see's more than 1%-5% of the totals. Except maybe Amerispec who probably saw more of them than anyone else still in business. Most of the cars were bought through brokers using European Dealers with a very small portion going thru Authorized Dealers. In fact the Authorized Dealers 'by and large' made it difficult on Gray Market Buyers/Owners until very late in the game. I'm giving you a first hand personal account by someone that was there. Take it for what it's worth. And all this discussion aside, the question I asked never got answered...which tool kit? although we have determined that the Brief Case is acceptable for any year, as was customary Ferrari used what they had availible and made substitutions according to supply and whim. Thanks for the conformation. |

JRV, most of the old FAF employees now work at FOA including Ken in parts. I did not rely on his memory but looked at the Ferrari parts book on the BB365GT4, BB512 and BB512i. Both the BB365GT4 and BB512 had the briefcase type tool kit listed in the parts books. The BB512i had the tool roll type listed. But, according to Ken a lot of the first BB512is that came into FAF had the briefcase tool kits with the tool roll types starting in 1981 or so. I suspect that a lot of people who bought a BB512i used without a tool kit may have mistakenly bought a briefcase type kit for it because it looks better. Subsequent owners just thought that is what came with the car and never questioned its originality. And Ferrari Spa. did not export any Boxers to the USA. They were all gray market. But, back then customers would order a Boxer from FAF or other dealer and take delivery in Italy, drive the car a week or so in Europe and then have it shipped to the USA for conversion. After conversion the car would be shipped to FAF or whatever dealer that ordered the customer car for delivery to the customer. FAF delivered a lot of Boxers that way. Per FAF, a few customers ordered the briefcase tool kit in a late BB512i which Ferrari Spa. would provide if available. |

So what are you and Ferrari of Atlanta calling early? BTW Ferrari of Atlanta didn't exist in 80-81-82-83-84-85-etc. did they? FoA is not the same as FAF. I have 'personally' seen late '83's' with the Brief Case. And after all, since Ferrari didn't import the vast majority of Boxers..a guy like myself got to work on quite a few of them before the dealers ever saw one...know what I mean...;-)...so now what we need is someone that was there and watched every single boxer leave the factory....and I'd rather rely on his notes rather than his memory...;-)... I've seen the tool bags in both also, late and early however my take is the Brief Case came up missing. Although the 84 I have in the shop right now does have the the bag as you indicate,, an 83 came in for a service this morning I'll have a look at it Mon. morning. |

Per the parts dept at Ferarri of Atlanta the Boxer changed to the tool roll in the early production of the BB512i. So earlier BB512is had the briefcase type with later ones having the tool roll type. The tool roll type came with a leather pouch that matched the car's interior color. All cars had the straps in the front trunk behind the left headlight to secure the kit regardless of the type suppled by Ferarri. I was told that the tool kits and pouches are still available from Ferrari. |

>>>I never was able to determine that all Boxers came with the tool case that mounts behind the passenger side head light.<<< That's correct, only the ones with the Brief Case Tool Kit Mount covered with felt, having the tie down leather belt came that way. Definately the injected cars came with them. And very likely all the cars with the special Brief Case Mount. ;-)

Frank, try Kurt at Ferraribooks.com. He is a sponsor here, who sells more than the name suggests. |

Amerispec will probably be able to tell you which tool kit came with your car. Many Boxers came with a tool roll, in an outer bag that matched the interior leather color. The jack bag was located in the very front lower spare compartment in a black leather bag with tan belts. I never was able to determine that all Boxers came with the tool case that mounts behind the passenger side head light. I was able to locate an original tool kit in the FML and an original tool roll and outer bag on E-Bay. Good luck, and none of it was cheap! |

Which tool kit? The jack bag kit, the tool bag kit or the Brief Case Kit that sits by the right headlight in the stand? |

One of the things my new Boxer is missing is a tool kit. Does anyone know where I can buy one ? If so, please advise me at [email protected] |
